Currently responsible for datacenter firmware tool package creation and maintenance for all SKUs, managing the new QA lab including equipment and services acquisition as well as researching new tests and vetting incoming systems for delivery to customers. Recently three more programs were added to my TODO list; ACP, sustaining programs, and test development management across three locations.

As a member of a team of upper echelon QA technicians, I operate at an extremely high level in a fast moving and ever changing Linux-based environment; performing root cause analysis on difficult and complicated technology problems, qualifying systems to execute on critical business strategies, writing test automation and firmware installation scripts for vendors, all the while managing the qualification process on multiple SKUs across multiple vendors as assigned. Key Achievements:Completed many hard drive, system, specialized hardware, and firmware qualifications.Collaborated on the vendor tools specification and pushed it through the process to release to vendors and internal customers.Continued automating manual processes with Perl and BASH shell scripts; most notable are the automated AC cycling scripts and a comprehensive system data collection script. Established baseline processes and procedures for thermal chamber testing.Tested all active and legacy systems for power supply hold-up time and coordinated with vendors to correct power supply firmware where it made sense to do so. Tested every active SKU to establish baseline reboot time expectations and pushed firmware updates to reduce reboot times of fringe cases. Subject matter expert providing technical support on Linux issues.

On contract to Amazon; testing and qualifying systems.Tested and validated hardware components, software, firmware, and utilities for use within company infrastructure.Automated manual processes with BASH and Perl scripts.SME providing technical support for Linux issues.

On contract to Doyenz; ONMS integration projectIntegrated OpenNMS into Doyenz’ infrastructure to monitor systems and provide visibility to management and support personnel.Assisted with data center migration, including racking servers, software installation, and configuration.

On contract to Clearwire Corp.; ONMS integration projectIntegrated auto-layout mapping and LDAP authentication into a rebranded version of OpenNMS running on Apache/Jetty. Automated the manual ONMS/PostgreSQL installation process with Perl scripts for both monolithic and split installations to separate the database independent of the ONMS server. Wrote shell scripts to backup and manage archives on both ONMS and PostgreSQL servers. Key Achievements:Delivered the first release of the modified ONMS within six weeks of project launch.Introduced SchemaSpy, PgAdmin, and kSAR tools for database and server analysis.Contributed Perl code for database connectivity and testing and installation.

Administrator of Red Hat, SuSE, CentOS, Solaris 9/10 servers and Microsoft workstations. Led and coordinated routine code deployments (using Subversion and Ant) with the project manager, QA, and development teams. Monitored, maintained, and backed up MySQL, PostgreSQL, Sybase, and Oracle databases. Managed user accounts and VPN access with Microsoft 2003 Server AD.Key Achievements:Developed and implemented virtual and real tape backups using AMANDA (Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver).Integrated OpenNMS and Webmin on Apache and Tomcat, and Spiceworks on Server 2003 into the enterprise to manage and monitor the health of servers, workstations, continuity of services, track activities for security, and inventory hardware and software assets.Integrated Pentaho and Alfresco servers running Apache and Tomcat into the enterprise for data mining and project collaboration (similar to SharePoint) respectively.

24/7 support building new systems, deployment, managing, and monitoring system health of Red Hat, Fedora, and incumbent Debian servers and Microsoft workstations, service connectivity, and disaster recovery using best practices (OpenNMS using SNMP and Webmin). Monitored, maintained, and backed up MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle databases. Managed Windows user accounts, file and printer sharing (CUPS) using a Samba primary domain controller. Installed, configured, and managed the group mail server using Postfix, SpamAssassin, Amavis, BitDefender, and ClamAV. Managed and maintained the GeneTests.org web servers running Apache and Tomcat. Investigated and purchased capital equipment as required to support the unit. Key Achievements:Designed, deployed, and managed high-availability load-balancing iptables firewalls using heartbeat and LVS on a RAID 1 array.Designed, configured, and deployed backup strategies of virtual and real tape backups using AMANDA (Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver).Designed and used MySQL databases to track hardware and software license inventory.Integrated a CVS server to manage system, process, and procedural documentation.Installed, configured, and deployed DNS (BIND 9) and DHCP servers at both the Northgate and Sabey locations.Automated weekly FTP transfers to and from NCBI with BASH shell scripts and cron.Successfully migrated web (Apache/Tomcat) and email (Exim to Postfix) servers from Debian to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and subsequently to RHEL 5.

Performed black box testing of various XHTML, WML, WAP, and Java applications on over thirty different wireless devices, a WIFI PCMCIA modem and UI, and UI localization of a DRM product. Improved process flow by developing an identification system for the SIM cards used during testing.

Performed ad hoc black box testing of GraphOn’s GoGlobal for UNIX and Gojo product lines including; regression, build verification, and smoke tests. Developed test cases and test plans using spreadsheets and tracked bugs in PVCS Tracker and Bugzilla. Administered a small lab of AIX 4.2/4.3, HP-UX 10.2/11.0, Solaris 2.3/2.4/2.5/2.6/7/8, Tru64, and Linux servers as well as Microsoft workstations. Automated installing nightly builds, running initial smoke tests, and reporting results in email with BASH scripts. Established an off-site backup tape rotation with branch offices.

Designed new tools, revised and/or corrected existing tool designs, and acted as liaison between the various Tool Design, Production Engineering, Tool Fabrication and Tooling QA teams to resolve design, engineering, and fabrication issues.
