This national mutualised, not-for-profit organisation offers professional indemnity and insurance for health professionals, risk management and medico-legal services. As Corporate Relations Manager I was responsible for external and internal communications, issues management, media training, print and digital publications, advocacy communications and research.Achievements • Enhanced media share of voice by 80% by developing a targeted a proactive and reactive media strategy. • Transitioned and rationalised 32 print publications to an online/e-newsletter platform with resulting open rates up to 61% and click-through rates as high as 45%.• Media managed a national roadshow lecture series having successful secured an international speaker. Achieved blanket medical media coverage and general media profile. • Produced a series of print publications including a celebration of Avant's 120 year history and a publication on Doctor Health and Wellbeing.

Medical Observer is an award-winning media brand that publishes a weekly print title and digital products including a weekly iPad edition, iPhone app, website and email newsletters. It provides information and solutions to healthcare communities and is widely recognised in the healthcare and publishing industry for editorial excellence, innovation and quality independent content.As Managing Editor I had full responsibility for operations, content strategy and delivery across the suite of Medical Observer media platforms including iPad, online, video, social, print and supplements. I was also responsible for product development to meet commercial objectives, identifying key partners, developing and maintaining relationships and audience engagement.The Managing Editor role was created to work closely with the Associate Publisher on operations, business development and strategy. Achievements • Established ongoing partnership agreements with multiple external stakeholder groups including the General Practice Registrar Association, the Australian Practice Nurses Association and the Australian Practice Managers Association. These agreements offered Medical Observer content high levels of exposure and acted as a conduit for digital engagement.• Led the design and production process for the February 2012 launch of the Medical Observer weekly iPad edition – a first for a weekly medical publication in Australia.• Managed redesign of website architecture and content offering which led to increased traffic and longer time on site.

In this role I managed the direction, production and day-to day delivery of content via Medical Observer’s multiple media platforms including print, digital, social media, supplements and marketing material under the brand. A key responsibility was to drive editorial direction, run research and media campaigns as well as the selection, editing and sign-off of all content (including legal checking) across all publishing channels.I was also responsible for Invigorating the publication by offering quality, ethical and legally sound content that inspired, informed and entertained. This included developing and implementing special projects, special issues, campaigns and competitions.Achievements• 2011 Publishers Australia Awards – Winner: Website Relaunch Of the Year (Highly Commended); Website of The Year (Runner up); Best Special Issue Of The Year (Arts Issue).• Increased reader engagement in the print publication to above 79%, as measured by the annual Medical Publishers Readership Research.• Doubled online traffic, page impressions and page views year on year 2009 to 2010; achieved newsletter open rates consistently above industry average.• Drove increased reader engagement and product differentiation through the introduction of themed issues including the Arts Issue, Green Doctors, Mental Health, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease.

The Australian Medical Publishing Company (AMPCo) is a subsidiary of the Australian Medical Association and publishes the Medical Journal of Australia. The Digital Development Editor role was created to launch the company’s first bespoke digital e-newsletter product MJAinsight. I conceived, project managed, launched and edited the company's first news and opinions e-newsletter and website. See www.mjainsight.com.auAchievements • MJAinsight is now the most widely distributed e-newsletter for health professionals in Australia and a viable revenue stream for AMPCo.• Commercial and editorial key performance indicators were met within a month of launch, establishing AMPCo in the digital space and leading to further digital development projects for this traditionally print focused company.

Managed the production of news (online and print) including two news teams covering political and clinical health news. I also edited feature sections of the publication and developed editorial content for a new quarterly editorial product - Medical Observer Primary Care Nurse.Achievements• Redeveloped the publication’s news section, introduced new content and integrated disparate editorial content. The 2008 readership survey reported over 90% of readers rated the news positively for interest, quality and reliability. • Managed news content and issued press releases to garner significant crossover for Medical Observer news stories in national media coverage.• Identified an evolving niche publishing opportunity and developed from inception to launch, the first independent magazine for general practice nurses in the country. The associated website launched March 2009.

Medicine Today is a multi-platform national monthly peer-reviewed education and news publication for health professionals. All articles are commissioned from leaders in Australian medical specialities.In this role I commissioned, edited and managed the production of manuscripts and managed the news section of the publication.Achievements • Commissioned a series of clinical articles with a 95% invite/accept ratio, using my extensive knowledge of medical experts in specialty fields. Authors were not paid for contributions.• Researched, wrote and liaised with external creative services to produce the magazine’s 50th anniversary edition - including the commissioning of the first editorials in the magazine for many years.
