I am a first year graduate student pursuing a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Princeton University. After building up a strong foundation in Physics and Engineering @ UC Berkeley, I am excited to spend the coming years applying this knowledge towards research in the field. Specifically I am interested in the application of photonic devices to quantum engineering. In my free time I enjoy skiing, running, rock climbing and traveling. Feel free to reach out to me at bm2302@princeton.edu.

Undergraduate Researcher In The Kante GroupUniversity Of California, Berkeley Jun 2023 - May 2024Berkeley, California, United StatesResearching PCSEL simulation and fabrication as a part of the Kante Group in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. Specifically researching optically pumped InGaAsP PCSEL that exhibit controllable beam steering characteristics, and electrically pumped InGaAsP PCSEL's. -
Undergraduate Researcher In The Galacticos GroupUniversity Of Sydney Physics Society Feb 2023 - May 2024Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaI work with the James Webb Space Telescope, comparing galaxies at high red-shift with n-body simulations of early galaxies to see if we are able to simulate galaxy formation under Prof. Jonathon Bland-Hawthorn. Specifically, I pull and process image and spectroscopy data from the CEERS survey to track early stellar bar formation and use that to improve n-body simulations. -
Undergraduate Researcher In The Nanomachines GroupBerkeley Lab Aug 2022 - Jan 2023Researched the tuning of single photon emission from hexagonal boron nitride through strain engineering as a part of a collective of many physics groups on campus, all managed under Prof. Michael Crommie. Manuscript in Preparation: Strain control of Emission in hBN.My main two roles were first, synthesizing a polymer that is electrically conductive, so when running tests in the scanning electron microscope, we will be able to both induce a strain over the hBN on top of the polymer, but also prevent electrons from building up due to inductive properties of most polymers. I did this by researching new ways to mix PDMS with PEDOT:PSS. Then also a new way to exfoliate hBN onto this polymer. Finally, my second main role was designing a device in the machine shop that would allow us to apply a continuous, sweeping strain to the sample while it is in the SEM. -
Undergraduate Researcher In The Zettl GroupBerkeley Lab Dec 2020 - Jan 2023Berkeley, California, United StatesResearched the application of kirigami patterns to 2D materials such as graphene, and how they can be used to lower the resonant frequency and expand the bandwidth of 2D membranes under the guidance of Prof. Alex Zettl. Publication: Kirigami Engineering of Suspended Graphene Transducers, Chunhui Dai, Yoonsoo Rho, Khanh Pham, Brady McCormick, Brian W. Blankenship, Wenyu Zhao, Zuocheng Zhang, S. Matt Gilbert, Michael F. Crommie, Feng Wang, Costas P. Grigoropoulos, and Alex Zettl Nano Letters 2022 22 (13), 5301-5306 DOI: 10.1021/acs.nanolett.2c01256Research presented at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Materials Sciences Division PI Retreat and Poster Session: shorturl.at/jknpC and Material Research Society Spring Meeting, 2022, Honolulu, HI, USA. C. Dai, Y. Rho, K. Pham, B. McCormick, C. Grigoropoulos, A. Zettl, “Engineering the Resonant Modes of a Graphene Optomechanical Transducer”, Presentation: shorturl.at/mrOVXI programmed in LabView to control a laser to actuate a graphene membrane with a function generator, measure the amplitude of the oscillations with a lock-in amplifier, changed and measured pressure with a pressure gauge. I also innovated improved ways of 2D material production through CVD growth, and transfer to improve yield % and quality. Regularly presented my current research to a group of professors, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates. -
