The first computer I broke had one of those black and amber monitors. While I don't recall the model, or even how old I was, I do remember my dad being pretty upset about it. I remember thinking it odd, that his level of excitement about the fixed box was nowhere near his level of annoyance of the previously broken box. It happened again. And again. After a few years of effectively being banned from touching computers, I somehow managed to have a box of my own, in my room. They would take away the phone cord, or the power cord, whatever they could do to keep me from, "playing on those damn games." To be fair, sure, I was playing the hell out of some of them, but those were just to pass the time. I had isolated a few instances of malware on 3.5" floppies, and was infecting, watching, cleaning, tweaking, infecting, cleaning, and so on. I was spending late, late nights on IRC and AOL chat, contributing here and there, but mostly just soaking it all in. These were the 14.4 days, so I can only imagine how little was actually happening between all the waiting. Hurry up and wait.Fast forward, I'm not sure I can say how many years, after cutting my teeth in the service industry, I found myself, (professionally) so far from what I loved. I was learning how people worked, and I did love that, but I was still the friend, family, and community IT tech. "Can you fix my _________," was my favorite thing. If it was a no, I never said no, I said, "I'll learn it real quick for ya." Hardware, networks, POS systems, security hardening, anything, for those people in my life that had their own spaghetti wire situations to tackle. "Why don't you get into computers?" That question, over and over, for almost 30 years now.Which is what finds me here. I've decided to set my focus on making the switch. Paid position wise, I have very little experience in the field, but I have been doing it for what feels like my whole life. Now, I am fully focused on making that transition into the Infosec world, and that firehose can't get strong enough.Looking at what this section is supposed to be about, achievements and job experiences, skills.. You could say I missed the mark, but some might find that interesting. "Did you do the thing, write the summary?" Well, that depends. What are the rules again?
