After Tenzing merged with Breakthru, I was happy to take up a Loop-based territory with a focus on fine dining. I sell a wide range of spirits and wines, representing some of the most popular and well-known brands in the country. I utilize the resources of the company and our suppliers to provide my customers with the product, knowledge, and materials they need to work with these brands.

I sold quality wine and craft spirits into on-and-off-premise accounts throughout the city of Chicago, and I did it through product knowledge and an ability to make that knowledge accessible and useful to my customers.

I stepped up to a higher level of service and hospitality here, and used my burgeoning wine education to provide Sommelier Dinners in which I educated customers on selected wines and wine pairings. Tastings and knowledge where crucial to selling here, and I continued to study in order to be successful.

I worked with a local entrepreneur as she started her own marketing business, and in the process I received a crash course in marketing copy, website copy, and instructional writing. I have an eye for detail and language, which I put to work proofreading outgoing email copy.

In a Wine, Beer, and Cheese department with over 500 wine SKUs, I learned how to assist customers with wine selection, food pairings, and service. I was often asked by the wine buyer to join her on tastings, furthering my education in both wine and and the business of wine. I also carried on my experience in service and hospitality at the attached bar.

This was the first wine bar in my hometown, and where I began learning about wine. Through tastings and trainings I realized that I could study wine for years and never know all of it, which drove me forward. I also had the opportunity to be part of a small business team, contributing to promotion, cleanliness, and overall appeal of the business.

Kankakee, Il

I learned so much working in this environment. My main focus was creating and organizing programs for Kankakee's diverse Hispanic community - cultural music/movies/dance presentations, ESL programs, and providing every-day library services in both English and Spanish. As part of the Adult Services (formerly Reference) Department I helped members access reference, computer technology, and genealogy.

I taught English language to early/beginning level students. The classroom included students who had arrived from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and China. Some were high school grads while others had little or no formal education. It was fun challenge, and ultimately a very rewarding one as I was able to graduate three students to First Level in six months.
