Through collaborative, one-on-one tutoring sessions, I worked with students on a range of materials, including freshman-year lab reports, essays from a wide variety of disciplines, and even professional business proposals and advertising materials. Combining directive and nondirective feedback, I sought to ensure that students felt more confident in not only their written assignments, but their overall writing ability. I also underwent additional training to become a tutor in public speaking and presenting. My other responsibilities at the HUB included making regular visits to undergraduate classes to lead sessions on effective presentation techniques, and I worked closely with professors across the campus to provide detailed feedback on the effectiveness of their syllabi. As part of my training, I took a quarter-long course focusing on effective tutoring practices and cutting-edge education pedagogy, and I volunteered regularly at a Spanish-language school for high schoolers and adults. Due to my success and enthusiasm during training, I obtained the distinction of Lead Writing Partner upon official hiring. Show less
