Executive Vice President, Corporate & Capital Markets Finance
I retained my accountabilities from my SVP Corporate Finance role (see below) while adding responsibility for two incremental functions:a) OMERS back- and middle-office functions to support OMERS $55 billion capital markets businesses (which include investments in public equities, bonds, public and private credit, derivatives and funds). This accountability includes for our OMS, IBOR and performance engine platforms and data; investment operations and custody relationships; controllership and performance reporting. This team is comprised of ~100 individuals, across 5 VPs. We are currently engaged in an operating model redesign, having recently completed a current state assessment; developing a full-suite data governance discipline, from strategy to playbook; multiple onboardings, due diligences, and process changes resulting from market requirements; and the professionalization of our performance, attribution, forecasting and controllership reporting. I have led the team's reorientation towards excellence, urgency, and client service, through setting the cultural tone, restructuring and replacing leadership, and establishing a strategy, annual priorities and operating metrics. Our stakeholders in Capital Markets, Risk, Compliance and Data & Technology have demonstrated excitement to now partner more closely with us, since this reorientation.b) The two-year, >$20 million project to replace OMERS decades-old on-premises consolidated financial reporting tool with a modern, cloud-based ERP system, amidst a broader Finance transformation program. I chair the Steering Committee governing the project, with oversight into business case, system selection, system integration partner, project monitoring and communication. I led the team in our current state assessment, case for change, and project business case. I regularly monitor and influence direction, pace and progress. The project is expected to go live in Q3 2024.
Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance
Appointed to continue leading the financing and investor relations function for OMERS international, AAA-rated financing program (see below), while also growing my accountabilities to include consolidated financial reporting and audits, as well as oversight of and Board reporting on ~$90 billion of Level 3 valuations (infrastructure, private equity, real estate and private credit); consolidated management reporting, forecasting and budgeting; drafting and navigating approvals of the Annual Report and mid-year reporting; finance operations, including our platform roadmap and execution; and procurement and vendor governance. This team is comprised of ~60 individuals across 4 VPs. In connection with this promotion I became Management Lead to the Audit & Actuarial Committee of the Board, with responsibility for improving the clarity, relevance and insight of our Board reporting. Our team routinely receives gratitude and accolades from the Committee for the quality of our reporting. In this role I recalibrated the team to focus increasingly on culture and community, excellence and expertise. We enhanced our financial reporting processes and documentation, strengthened our auditor relationship, and enhanced the depth and frequency of our management reporting insights. We developed a vendor governance program, which includes ESG considerations. We have grown the number of institutional investors participating in our financing program, while tightening our credit spread relative to peers. We have extended our planning horizon and adopted expense metrics and benchmarking. The team's engagement scores increased under my leadership.
Vp Corporate Finance & Treasury
Led the cross-enterprise team to newly establish OMERS international, AAA-rated term note program, which today totals ~$12B outstanding across 12 separate issuances (USD, CAD, EUR). Includes securing OMERS AAA credit rating from Fitch; developing, refining and leading our global investor relations program; establishing the process, documentation and governance capabilities; and dealer and peer relationships. We issued our first term note in April 2019 for US$1.25 billion, followed quickly by our inaugural CAD note issuance, and a EUR issuance the following year.
