I have 23 years of experience in local television. 19 of those have been as a photojournalist.A school trip to the nation's capitol at 14 years old, with five disposable cameras in tow, is what sparked my love for photography. My passion grew in high school when my best friend and I created a 30 minute weekly journalism show that aired throughout the school. We shot, wrote, edited, produced, and anchored the show for all of it's 14 episodes.
As a young photographer at WXXA in Albany, NY I captured a UFO on camera that led to an FBI investigation and national exposure. The video even led to a starring role on the History Channel series "Monster Quest.' At KSN in Wichita, KS, I was among the first photographers on the scene of the now infamous EF-5 tornado that wiped out Greensburg, KS. My photography and editing of the aftermath helped earn me my first regional Edward R. Murrow award and first Emmy nomination. My next stop was KWTV in Oklahoma City. I chased tornadoes, captured wildfires engulfing neighborhoods, covered water rescues in floods and spent hours on the clock during blizzards. I also spent countless hours shooting in the station's helicopter, SkyNews 9. My proudest moment was the hard work I put into the station's 'country music' special. I traveled to Nashville, TN and served as sole photographer and editor for the one hour prime-time special, earning an Emmy nomination for my photography. My love for photography came full circle when I accepted a position at WJLA in Washington, D.C. One standout highlight would be covering the 2013 Presidential Inauguration from the ground. I joined NPPA while working here and won my first NPPA award.I then tried my hand at sports photojournalism in 2014, accepting a job as Senior Photojournalist for Monumental Network in Washington, D.C. I won my first Regional Emmy and Best Of Photojournalism awards here for Sports Photography. After deciding we wanted to have a child and be closer to family, my wife and I accepted positions at WFAA TV in Dallas, Texas. We have been here since 2015 and absolutely love it.I am so very proud of what I have helped accomplish at WFAA. I have been able to help build a nationally recognized photography staff. Our staff has won NPPA Station Of The Year four times out of the last six years. WFAA has been Regional Station Of The Year for six years straight as well.
