  • Legislative Assembly Of Alberta
    Mla, Calgary-Acadia
Legislative Assembly Of Alberta May 2015 - Mar 2019
    Calgary, Canada Area
The most important part of being an MLA is getting to know the people in the community, and really listening to their stories to understand their hopes, dreams, and challenges. There’s no one-size-fits-all for each community, or for the people that live in those communities. There will always be disagreements about the best course of action, and different choices will impact people differently. As an MLA, I learned to take in that variety of opinions and impacts, and work towards a solution that could best navigate those different and sometimes conflicting views. When developing strategies and plans to support Mental Health in the Workplace, everyone’s needs are a little bit different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all. I use my experience as an MLA to identify where the challenges and the differences are, and to find solutions that are the best fit for you and your team.
  • Government Of Alberta
    Associate Minister Of Health
Government Of Alberta Feb 2016 - Jun 2018
    Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
As Associate Minister of Health, my biggest area of responsibility was Mental Health & Addictions. This was like a master class in mental health theory & practice, taught by the organizations and individuals in government, in health care, in our schools, and across our communities who were working to improve mental health services and supports. The biggest takeaway - Mental Health is the foundation. People can do their best when their mental health is flourishing. When we’re struggling, it’s that much harder, if not impossible, to achieve our goals. This role was also when I learned first-hand how critical Mental Health at Work can be, and what happens when high-performing employees’ mental health needs aren’t being met. I loved this role, but I chose to step away from it. I loved the work, but the psychosocial factors were harmful to me. I don’t want that to happen to your workplace. I want your top people to stay. I want your whole team to perform at their best. That’s why I focus on the psychosocial factors that impact Mental Health at Work - to help you and your team succeed.
  • Brandy Payne Yoga

As a certified yoga teacher, I’ve got an array of mindfulness tips, and some great tools to help your team address some of the physical challenges of sitting at work all day. Mindfulness is a great stress-busting tool, and I incorporate it into my stress management and burnout prevention workshops.
  • Hz Projects Inc.
    Project Support & Coordination
Hz Projects Inc. Feb 2013 - Jan 2015
I learned a ton about Project Management and Project Coordination working at this Engineering Consulting Company. Through on-the-job training & experience, and Project Management courses at Mount Royal University, I learned valuable tools for planning and managing large projects. Now, my Clients get a project coordinator and Mental Health Advisor rolled into one!One of my biggest projects at this firm was working with our HR director to create and communicate a suite of HR policies. HR policies have such an impact on the culture of a workplace, and I know how to work with your team to make sure your team has the policies you need. As the Team Lead for the Administration & Project Support departments, I also learned first hand the challenges and opportunities that can arise as you work to build an awesome team culture and an awesome corporate culture. I bring that experience to work every day as I help my Clients do the same in their teams.
  • Yoga Passage
    Manager
    Yoga Passage Sep 2008 - Sep 2010
    Calgary
This was a great experience in managing a team while managing a big workload of my own. I learned a lot about delegating and prioritizing, as well as building a team environment when you’re not always working in the same space at the same time.
  • Simon Fraser Student Society
    Communications Coordinator
Simon Fraser Student Society Oct 2002 - Jun 2006
    Burnaby, Bc
In this role, I learned a lot about clear & concise communications, as well as bringing people up-to-speed quickly on the issues they’re expected to make decisions about.I was staff support and advisor to the elected Board of Directors, which saw a fair bit of turnover each year. This meant making sure Directors felt they had the information they needed to confidently make decisions on the issues of the day, even if it was their first experience with it.Now, I’ve got a wealth of knowledge of Mental Health and Psychological Safety in the Workplace, and I make sure my Clients have the info they need to make decisions and set direction on Mental Health Strategy for their teams.
