I am an Associate Professor of English at Barton College. I teach creative writing, literature, journalism, photography, and other English and communications courses. In May 2023, I was named Lincoln Financial Faculty Member of the Year at Barton College.My fourth book, "A Southern Season: Rural Stories," was released in Feb.2023 and has been nominated for the Sam Ragan Old North State Nonfiction Award.My third book, "It's A Time in the Land: The Best of the Soap Box," is a collection of my best columns from The Nashville Graphic over the last 25 years.My second book, "Galvanized: The Odyssey of a Reluctant Carolina Confederate" was released May 1, 2020 from the University of Nebraska Press/Potomac Books. "Galvanized" reached #1 in three separate Civil War categories on Amazon New Releases.My first book, "Memory Cards," was released by Black Rose in 2015. It is available on all the major retailers online, select bookstores, and through my website. It was #1 on Kindle Top 100 as well as #1 in Nonfiction and #1 in Memoir in October 2016.
