I am currently acting as a Change Manager in NHSE London Region MH UEC Programme team to support in the implementation of the 111First for Mental Health Programme. This work involves supporting ICBs with their plans to mobilise new mental health crisis phoneline services via the 111 number by April 2024, in line with the requirements of the NHS Long Term Plan. I am particularly focused on leveraging my clinical experience to support ICBs to define the new operational and clinical elements of the service.

I spent a period of 7 months working with a large London-based Trust's internal consultancy, to aid in a programme tasked with improving patient length of stay. As part of this work, I first implemented robust PMO reporting and processes to give the programme structure and pace. I assisted the team in end-to-end discharge process mapping to identify challenge areas and opportunities for improvement. I led a workstream on the analysis of weekend discharge practices, which consisted of process mapping, data analysis and engagement with over 25 stakeholders to identify the root-cause of the issues. I provided coaching and support on MS Office and PPM basics to the team, and led a workstream tasked with carrying out ward-based discharge planning improvements, identifying the gaps in discharge planning processes and implementing discharge planning tools to support more robust practices, also carrying out weekly PDSA meetings to feedback progress. The work resulted in improved Trust-level reporting of NHSE-mandated Criteria to Reside codes, increased oversight of multidisciplinary meetings across Directorates to support outlying patient review, and improved forward-planning for discharges across seven wards.

In order to deliver transformation across the acute provider landscape within a large London ICB, I was brought in as part of a two-member team commissioned to scope out the ten priority programmes of work within the new Acute Provider Collaborative (APC). During this time, I worked closely with senior stakeholders across multiple Trusts to better understand the programmes’ aims, objectives, longer-term strategies, resources, stakeholders and governance. I organised and facilitated meetings and workshops with programme leads to ascertain what the programmes were seeking to achieve over the rest of the financial year 2022/23, what they needed in place to do this, and when the final outputs would be delivered. I synthesised the resultant information into high quality outputs to articulate the current ‘as is' and future ‘to be’ states of the APC programmes. The work defined a direction of travel for the APC and enabled the Directors of Strategy in the Trusts to address the next steps necessary to ensure the success of each of the programmes.
