I’m a freelance Japanese-to-English translator with a background in English language instruction. My experience includes designing and teaching innovative college courses for international students, developing several educational apps, training and certifying 100+ TEFL teachers, and publication of 3 academic articles on student participation and an NLP-based language learning app. My students have included university and secondary students as well as recent immigrants and professionals in the fields of technology, engineering, and medicine. My research focuses on 1) increasing students’ spoken participation and 2) using corpus data, natural language processing, and APIs to create apps that empower students to write with collocations, chunk sentences while reading, and acquire vocabulary quickly on their own.I speak/read business-level Japanese (JLPT N1) and conversational Chinese.I also enjoy acoustic beatboxing and the phonology that goes with it!
