Within a short period of time, I have been proud to have:• Developed ‘Safety Champion’ reward strategy, developing criteria in line with positive safety behavioural frameworks to retain engagement by identified ‘high-risk’ cohort through final stages of site closure • Identified key risks in compliance to safety protocol, developing and deploying both casual and documented engagement strategies, both shift by shift and across teams, to support compliance score retention • Deployed strategy to engage Senior leadership and Executive to play an active role in one-on-one communication, engagement and relationship supporting all team members to understand individual impact

Bowen Basin - Central Queensland

Reporting to the HSE Superintendent, I lead a team of six, responsible for implementation, training, compliance, and operational response across the above-ground open cut Blackwater site supporting safety outcomes for 350 staff per shift. I have also:• Successfully developed team members’ skill sets, implementing succession strategy to plan for emergency, disaster and leave requirements whilst also training in BMA system compliance, investigation, training and documentation of emergency incidents• Developed and embedded Equipment Compliance reporting procedures, recorded within SAP to replace manual and outdated medical and rescue equipment reporting. Ratified by HSE Superintendent, with improved preparedness including compliance inspections and reporting adopted across the site• Implemented emergency pre-plans including Confined Space Rescue Plans, Building Evacuation Plans, and area specific plans • Instigated daily team pre-start meeting ‘toolbox talks’ engaging operative staff in the ‘why’ behind drug and alcohol policies, safety and emergency response procedures etc. Reduced five per swing, to less than one ‘non-negative result’ from drug and alcohol testing • Improved rescue training grounds, completely cleaning and re-marking grounds and replacing outdated equipment and machinery with zero capex• Response to various incidents including HAZMAT, Road Crash Rescue (RCR), Search and Rescue(S&R), Vertical Rescue, Medical Evacuation, Industrial and Commercial Fire fighting• Implemented and assessed the effectiveness of Safe Operating Procedures, Safe Operating Practices and Emergency Response (ER) guidelines consistent with the core function of the ER Team• Constructed, conducted, and reviewed operational readiness drills and exercises annually and compliance evacuation exercises for all buildings as required by AS3745, analysing response times to draw meaningful data required to update processes

Mount Arthur

Contracting to BHP’s Mt Arthur Coal Project, I was approached through reputation and recommendation to provide interim support through a period of change whilst BHP transitioned from a ‘Volunteer model’ to a full-time dedicated Emergency Service Officer team appointment with a remit to provide contingency and settle in new procedures. During the appointment I was proud to have: • Participated in consultation and panel discussion with Senior Management of ‘Confined Space’ and WHS related matters. Re-wrote the confined space and entry procedure to support this complex site which included 966 identified confined space entries• Contributed to the formal site Risk Assessment and final policy for ‘Confined Space’ matters for the BHP Mt Arthur Coal site• Audited existing facilities and equipment effectively introducing and embedding documentation and operating procedures from the ground up. Created checklists and relevant timelines for compliant inspection, reporting and replacement as well as service of emergency response equipment and capabilities • Identified potential hazards and associated risks with existing policy and procedures recommend changes for improvement of emergency response operations

Nauru

Based within the International Operations sector in Nauru, The Australian Border Force houses, advocates for and conducts security services to support the Australian Government with processing Asylum Seekers through their primary contractor, Transfield and then Wilson Global Security.Reporting to the Brisbane based General Manager – Contracts, I led four local Security Service Provider (SSP) teams of up to 60 personnel each, servicing three Regional Processing Centre’s across a 24/7 roster. Implementing a Performance Management Framework (PMF) and tailoring the PMF to suit local workforce conditions and compliance with Nauruan legislation, I was tasked with the arrangement and facilitation of mandatory training up to the Australian standard with a strong emphasis on workplace health and safety. Having joined the operation within six months of its conception, earlier roles required complete set up of all frameworks, processes, policies from the ground up in a high-profile, ambiguous a politically sensitive environment.• Implemented, facilitated and monitored change within each of the SSP’s respective businesses to meet the demands of the PMF Liaise with the Government of Nauru to seek agreement and support with the implementation of the PMF and the associated benefits for Nauru in future compliance reporting to the Department of Immigration & Border Protection – (Australian Border Force) • Ensured each SSP met sub-contract conditions and requirements, establishing procedures to meet conditions of a stringent PMF including Australian Standard WHS procedures, in a 12-month period - this was a key achievement for the Nauruan business community, establishing benchmarks for these entities to compete for business in the broader Pacific region

Nauru

Reporting to the Brisbane based General Manager – Contracts, this multi-faceted, high-profile position promoted the Australian Standards and Safety Awareness generally throughout the community of Nauru with a view to consolidate and operationalise the relationship, engaging the community of Nauru with the project, funding school projects and community groups. I was very proud to have:• Arranged and convened meetings with community interest and welfare groups, schools, Government of Nauru portfolio ministers and Australian Border Force • Assess community bodies in need of assistance and design support concept, risk assessed and present to Wilson Management for approval and support with a spend of up to $20K per month on successful application of business case• With support and cooperation of Nauru Rotary, purchased a state-of-the-art outdoor cinema that was to be used for local fundraising events and community celebrations - an achievement that received extensive coverage both locally and within Australia

Nauru

Reporting to the Operations Manager, I led a team of three Risk Specialists whose purpose was the assessment of risk and associated mitigation strategies for efficient and compliant operational requirements of the Regional Processing Centres. • Investigated, analysed and reported on incidents, including suspicious fires, safety, security and political/ contract potential risks and issues liaising closely with Nauru Police Force• Partnered closely with Australian Border Force to anchor and confirm expectations in the risk management space, initiating disclaimer statements on risk assessment and associated advisory documents, providing ongoing review of the risk register to address outstanding risks • Compiled, initiated and oversaw the Risk Assessment structure and championed the Risk Assessment Action Plan approach and scoping which has become policy and procedure at both Nauru and Manus Island operations• Initiated WHS process & procedures to align with contract scope

Nauru

I was initially engaged to establish and develop ‘Emergency Management Plan’, ‘Incident Response Plan’ and ‘Emergency Duty Cards’ that are the foundation documents for policy formation and Standard Operations Procedures for the whole Offshore operation (including garrison services).• Conducted emergency exercise drills (scenario and desktop based) – reviewing and reporting on lessons learnt to management team • Managed the review of Scope of Works and the implementation of systems and policy to facilitate compliance • Chaired working groups to discuss Open Centre policy and initiate client and stakeholder meetings of the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), allocated roles and facilitated training for key ECO individuals • Prepared and delivery of a training package for ECO stakeholder inductions for familiarisation of nominated staff members• Developed the Formation of final documents and related document control methodology• Engaged with Nauruan government ministers and staff to draft and ultimately implement legislation regarding safer work practices for expat staff whilst working in Nauru

Nauru

I was engaged to lead a Security Emergency Management Team of expat and local officers to facilitate the good order of the Regional Processing Facility, at the time a new facility in a foreign country with no processes, plans or systems. Established Standard Operating Procedures, developing and implementing safe work methodology & practices, and efficient hand-over practices in a 24-hr duty environment
