I became the lead on the Engineering Design and Auto Cad drafting for a water distribution system for a community in Nicaragua, Cuajachillo #2, that was lacking the basic needs for survival. In the spring of 2017 I traveled to the community with a team of 5 to gather the final information needed to complete the design for the project. We met with the community water board multiple times to discuss designs. All of these conversations were held in Spanish. I gained the leadership and experience problem solving and changing designs in the field. Upon return I worked with the two design leads to complete the project for final submission. We partnered with multiple professors and professional engineers to submit a complete design to Engineers Without Borders. I gained the leadership and knowledge of design to begin my current position of design lead for our new distribution system. I lead about 10 multi-disciplinary students to design a full distribution system. We work closely with our tank team and our well team in meetings and design team settings. Weekly I must organize tasks, technically write reports, and collaborate with professors and industry professionals.

Creation of technical memorandum for a variety of clients including drainage report, alternatives analysis for wastewater treatment plant renovations, and more. Participated in city and community meetings discussing design and alternatives.

Much of my work involved handy man work around the Civil and Environmental Department. I have helped clean work areas, done inventory, checked lab safety, ect. This job gives me small looks into many of the labs and broad spectrum of what this department teaches and the practical skills it helps students learn.

I conduct soil tests on many different soil samples and on Geo-synthetic Clay Liners to determine a base soil surroundings a GCL at Cold Canyon Landfill. These tests led to further tests I began to design and construct to help determine the life span for GCL to maintain their impermeability.
