Senior Policy Advisor
Washington D.C. Metro Area
As a Senior Policy Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, I conducted research and wrote reports on global political and economic issues, including the spread of populism and voter attitudes. My work deployed a variety of types of quantitative and qualitative skills, including database construction, regression and time series analysis, public opinion research including survey design and analysis, and expert interviews. I presented my work in several types of media outlets, including written op-eds for newspapers and online sites, radio interviews, and television.I helped build and maintained the Institute's Global Populist Leader Database, which became a leading resource on global populism for scholars and media. I wrote over a dozen policy reports and short pieces based on this database, addressing how populists affected several important political and economic issues, including political stability, the politics of central banking, foreign direct investment, and Covid policy. My work on populism was featured in top media outlets, including the New York Times, Newsweek, and on CNN.My second area of focus was in public opinion research, focusing on voter attitudes, especially on climate change. I designed an original survey to understand the reasons why the public was concerned about climate change. I also designed an extensive set of survey and conjoint experiments to understand how voter's attitudes responded to different types of information about climate policy and different climate policy designs. This work produced four policy reports and several short pieces and was featured in leading media outlets including The Guardian, Le Monde, and the Financial Times. Finally, I also worked with our global advisory practice to provide political insight for its clients. One project including advising the Premier of Newfoundland on how his administration could increase public trust and boost public support for its policies.
