Renewables Policy is responsible for research, analysis, and policy development on renewable and distributed energy resources.

Bridge the concerns, needs, and interests of First Nation and Métis communities in Ontario with the core objective of the IESO -- ensuring reliability of the province's electricity system. This includes strengthening relationships, building capacity, and using information / data to design strategies that improve energy security and economic outcomes for First Nation and Métis peoples in the province.

Working with agencies, electricity providers, and innovators to create the right environment for cost-effective modernization of Ontario's distribution grids, and for utilities to invest in technologies that make the most technical and economic sense for their systems and customers.

Energy projects happen on the land and are an important part of Ontario's economy. The goal of this team is to make sure these projects are developed in a way that meets Indigenous community needs and interests and reconciles differences from then, now, and in the future.

Strategic Policy connects the Ministry of Energy's mandate with all other government policies and activities that affect or are influenced by the energy sector. The team also supports an accessible platform for critical information about this sector and monitors the regional electricity planning process.

Ensure that all approval processes for energy projects meet the Crown's constitutional obligations. Review and recommend changes to programs and procurement processes so Indigenous communities have more chances to participate economically in Ontario's energy sector. Explore opportunities to build relationships and find solutions that will benefit Indigenous peoples in the province.
