As a volunteer General Firefighter for Epping CFA, my role involved a duality of fundraising and first-response activities. It was my role to respond to instances of fire threatening lives and property, including grass, scrub, and bush fires as well as property fires and vehicular accidents. The CFA prides itself on extensive training and maintaining the highest of standards across all brigades, and I am proud to have been a member of this organization, serving and protecting my community, and communities abroad. Epping CFA has enabled me to have/be:- Safety-conscious; in personal practice and of those around me, ensuring all members including myself are operating safely while minimizing all possible forms of risk. - Integrity; acting fairly and honestly within a team, and individually through all areas of life. - Excellent communication; communication especially in potentially life-threatening situations is critical as a firefighter to coordinate team efforts and work efficiently, which is a quality I've adopted and maintained in everyday life. - Problem solving/decision making: in an everchanging environment, decisions must be made quickly and accurately to solve current and forthcoming problems. This is a skill I have obtained and employed across my volunteering experience, academia and employment. Volunteering for the CFA has provided me with extremely valuable life experience which has allowed me to grow as a volunteer, an employee, and as a person.

My position involved managing and providing assistance to staff across Liquor, Tattslotto, grocery registers and deli departments while assigning jobs and completing tasks primarily in the produce, grocery and dairy departments. Key responsibilities include:- Opening and closing store- Money handling- Authorizing refunds/returns - Managing staff- Stacking/filling shelves- Customer service/conflict resolutionA major achievement has been my involvement in increasing the ability to rotate and store stock in the liquor cool-room by re-designing it and setting stock limits for particular products to prevent stock expiration and enable ease of rotation. This role has provided me with great leadership ability, make decisions under pressure, as well as enhancing my interpersonal skills through customer service. I have and continue to use my problem solving skills to improve my work environment and complete jobs more efficiently to a higher standard.
