Brett Melnick is a Peabody award-winning television writer, and Blacklist-placing feature writer, who currently works on the writing support staff of the HULU animated comedy, King Of The Hill.Brett began his career in the writer's room of the TBS comedy, The Last O.G., starring Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish. As the show's writers assistant, Brett wrote digital promos for the series, which later aired on TBS and the TBS digital app. His previous experience also includes work in the writer’s room on the first and second seasons of the FX comedy, DAVE.Brett just wrapped work on the Peabody award-winning series, The Wonder Years, where he received his first network writing credit on the first season episode entitled, “The Valentine’s Day Dance.”In the feature writing space, Brett placed on the 2020 Black List for his comedy script, Yom Kippur, a story of three distant cousins who come together on the holiest Jewish holiday only to find themselves trapped in the middle of an underground drug-trafficking ring.In the digital space, Brett served as the co-creator of the satirical news desk series, What's Up North (https://www.instagram.com/reel/B89OxJQBUx3/?hl=en), created in partnership with Instagram and BuzzFeed. The digital series focused on informing and empowering a Gen Z audience to make a positive social and environmental impact on the world.A graduate of Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Brett studied as a mentee to director/producer Rob Cohen (The Fast And The Furious, xXx). He now lectures part-time at the University, teaching his “writer’s assistant workshop” course.
