I was a legal intern in the narcotics and public corruption units of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.

I coached high school students how to be strategic and efficient communicators, researchers, and critical thinkers. I especially focused on teaching students how to effectively share their story in order to move and convince audiences.

I was an intern on Capitol Hill for U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), the first elected openly gay person to the U.S. House and Senate. This internship was part of the Victory Institute Congressional Internship Program for which I was one of 12 undergraduates selected nationwide. The purpose of the program was to provide an empowering experience on Capitol Hill in combination with leadership training through the Victory Institute. I learned how to use the IQ constituent system and draft constituent letters. I also assisted with the research and drafting of an LGBTQ resolution that passed both the House and Senate unanimously.

I was the youngest candidate in South Dakota for the SD Legislature in 2018 with the slogan: “For the People, Not the Party.”

Conducted legal research, drafted legal documents, created visual presentations for civil trials, and assisted with general office work.

As elected president of Complex Council, I was in charge of conducting the Complex Council meetings, creating programs for residents, and addressing issues that Beede and Mickelson residents had.

While in this position, I got firsthand experience seeing the criminal justice system in action. I witnessed emotional trials, the role victims play in the criminal justice system, and how drug court programs can successfully rehabilitate criminals without incarceration.

I competed in speech and debate from 8th grade to 12th grade. As a speech and debate competitor, I learned how to research, write, and speak effectively to persuade and move audiences. In public forum debate, I researched a variety of topics, including GMOs, carbon taxes, the Citizens United decision, and refugee policy. I had to write cases, prepare arguments, and find ways to convince the judge in the back of the room. Through speech events, such as original oratory, informative speaking, and dramatic interpretation, I learned how to inform about issues and discuss solutions, and I learned how to move an audience. I also had to learn how to be a part of a team and work together effectively.

As president of this council, I got to experience philanthropy first hand. The Youth Council donated $15,000 in grant money to non-profit organizations throughout Watertown. I also gained experience on what it's like to be a board member and how to conduct board meetings.
