I coached high school students how to be strategic and efficient communicators, researchers, and critical thinkers. I especially focused on teaching students how to effectively share their story in order to move and convince audiences.

While in this position, I got firsthand experience seeing the criminal justice system in action. I witnessed emotional trials, the role victims play in the criminal justice system, and how drug court programs can successfully rehabilitate criminals without incarceration.

I competed in speech and debate from 8th grade to 12th grade. As a speech and debate competitor, I learned how to research, write, and speak effectively to persuade and move audiences. In public forum debate, I researched a variety of topics, including GMOs, carbon taxes, the Citizens United decision, and refugee policy. I had to write cases, prepare.

As president of this council, I got to experience philanthropy first hand. The Youth Council donated $15,000 in grant money to non-profit organizations throughout Watertown. I also gained experience on what it's like to be a board member and how to conduct board meetings.
