Principal Electrical Engineer
CurrentI have 30 years experience in heavy industry (upstream gas, mining, bulk materials handling and manufacturing industry). I have worked on a wide range of roles in owner teams, plant engineering, maintenance management and engineering consultancies. I have experience in all project phases and aspects of project management.During my career I have gained technical expertise in process control and programmable safety systems, HV transmission/distribution, LV motor control, instrumentation, hazardous area electrical installations and electrical drive systems (both AC and DC). I am skilled in all of the design, installation, maintenance and fault finding of these systems. In addition I am a qualified HAZOP and CHAZOP facilitator and certified functional safety engineer and have facilitated a wide range of risk assessments and reviews in heavy industry, manufacturing, conventional power generation, alternative power generation and oil and gas.I have a sound understanding of the fundamentals of the mechanical, and the civil/structural disciplines and enjoy working in multidisciplinary environments. I have been a project/engineering/study manager on several multidisciplinary projects and studies. I also act as a lead engineer in my own discipline on projects to provide technical direction and leadership.The application of fundamental engineering knowledge is of paramount importance. I bring to the table the ability to break a problem down and apply engineering fundamentals in the framework of a systematic and practical approach. I also am an advocate of not over designing systems and driving solutions away from the complex and costly end of the spectrum to a fit for purpose outcome that meets the business needs and finances.
