I have held several positions during my tenure with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), including Program Officer, Network Coordinator, Program Manager, Senior Program Specialist, and, most recently, as Manager, Portfolio Management and Performance with the Canadian Forest Service (CFS). These positions have allowed me to exercise and demonstrate leadership both with colleagues and with a wide range of external government and non-government organizations domestically and internationally. I value collaboration, innovation and transparency and actively work towards generating a work environment of respect and openness. As one of the senior members within my current division, I provide advice to other staff and actively transfer my knowledge and experiences while also encouraging other staff to share their ideas and participate in strategic processes and project implementation.I have been involved in program activities in developing regions in South and Central America, Asia and the Mediterranean region with additional community-based program delivery experience in northern Europe and Canada. In addition to working with the Canadian Model Forest Network Secretariat and, for the past 12 years, the International Model Forest Network Secretariat, I spent two years working with local NGOs in small communities in eastern Nepal.My current work focuses on developing program planning, monitoring and reporting systems for the CFS. This has included the development of Tableau-based dashboards and advanced analytics visualizations for the sector.

As the Senior Program Specialist, my primary responsibilities lie in the identification of development issues and opportunities pertinent to the work of the International Model Forest Network (IMFN) Secretariat, and in actively participating in the elaboration of the Secretariat’s strategies for institutional and program development. Between November 2003 and September 2009, my main geographic area of focus was Asia. However, I was also active in Latin America and the Caribbean for several years and have also worked in the Mediterranean region. Currently, my region of focus is the circumboreal, including northern and Eastern Europe, Russia and liaison with the Canadian Model Forest Network.In 2013 I also assumed responsibility for communications and outreach with the IMFN Secretariat. In that capacity, I instigated an enhanced communications program focusing on a weekly newsletter, social media and video. I am also a member of Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) Video Community of Practice (VCOP) that both promotes and assists in the production of videos for NRCan programming. In addition to video production (both filming and editing), I have provided advice and training to others and have tested new equipment including a Mobile Video Production Kit.In addition to my work with the IMFN Secretariat, I am also responsible for maintaining bilateral relations with the Russian Federal Forest Agency (RFFA) including the negotiation of a Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) and the RFFA. Over the past several years, I have been working on enhancing cooperation between national forest agencies and research institutions across the circumboreal region. I also serve as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the International Boreal Forest Research Association (IBFRA).

The Canadian Forest Service Manager, Model Forests was responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of Canada’s Model Forest Program including the provision of advice and recommendations on the planning, implementation and direction of sustainable forest management. Canada’s Model Forest Program, initiated in 1992, was renewed in 2002 as a $40 million, five year program. The program required effective consultation and liaison with partners and supporters including senior representatives of industry, communities, provincial governments, other federal departments and agencies, and non governmental organizations. I was responsible for ensuring clear and consistent management of the Program, including provision of overall direction, ensuring due diligence in operations, budgeting, coordination of the Program Secretariat with members in each of CFS’s five regional centres, and the promotion of networking opportunities between Model Forests and other organizations. Additional responsibilities included overseeing the operation of the Canadian Model Forest Network, the development and implementation of an effective and coordinated performance management (impact monitoring and evaluation) strategy for the Program and the individual Model Forests, and for coordinating the evaluation of the Program and individual Model Forests.
