In my role as a deputy district judge, I am required to sit in the county courts and district registries of the High Court for between 15 and 50 days a year.As with full-time district judges, the work of a deputy involves a wide spectrum of civil law cases, together with associated costs and case management issues.The matters that come before me commonly include personal injury cases, consumer and contract disputes, claims for compensation, injunctions, possession proceedings, divorces and domestic violence injunctions, as well as insolvency proceedings.Adjudicating on issues that significantly affect the lives and wellbeing of the parties involved requires integrity, fairness, patience and understanding.
