One of my very first jobs before being an IT engineer was food service like many before me. I learned that being courteous, prompt, and diligent didn't just earn more tips but a good outlook on life. I believe outside of having technical knowledge any IT job starts with customer service. Customer service is the bedrock that builds trust with users and other colleagues. Without it, an IT person comes off as cold or uncaring. That's why whenever someone asks me what my strongest asset is being an IT consultant first thing I always say is my excellent customer service. A little about me, I've been in the IT industry for over 20 years. As a consultant, I've worked in many different sectors from food manufacturing to hospitality industries. Each one has given me a new perspective on both the customer service side as well as the technical aspects of each industry. I find the most valuable is the interaction between new people. I firmly believe each person can teach you somethingif you are willing to listen.
