After graduating from Glenville State College with an Associates in Land Surveying I joined the Army as a Geodetic Surveyor. This provided me an opportunity to survey in other parts of the world. Over seven years was spent surveying in Germany, as well as a trip to Turkey. Most of the surveys involved Airfield Obstructions Safety Surveys in support of the FAA. I was also provided an all expense paid trip to Saudi Arabia for the first Gulf War where we started using GPS to provide support to Field Artillery and other units. Other countries I surveyed in as part of a team or as a team chief were; England, Tunisia, Peru, Guatemala, and Belize during a three year tour with NIMA(known as NGA today).I served in many leadership positions during my career in the military including three deployments in support of wartime missions. After retirement, I was recruited by an environmental company to manage their GIS database and to further develop the program. During this employment I was asked to help evaluate a new GIS data capture device called the 'ike'. It was a fabulous tool for quick data collection. It had GPS, a digital camera, electronic compass, and a laser range finder all in a small hand-held unit. It made quick work on an Environmental Site Closure Survey on a base in Afghanistan.I moved on from that company and started my own business selling the ike and providing GIS data collection services which included nine months of the year I was the Assistant Team Chief and technical expert in Iraq and the remaining time I was the Team Chief in Afghanistan performing data verification and collection using the ike.For over four years, I worked for ikeGPS, Inc, moving up the ladder from salesman to finally Manager, Solution Engineering and Training. This gave me great insight into the utility industry and how ikeGPS was able to greatly improve the quality and productivity of data collected.Recently I have been working in the service provider industry working FTTH.
