I am leading a team of 2 working on Redbox’s payment systems. Focused on projects optimizing payment processing to reduce declines and interchange fees along with modernizing systems into AWS.• Co-led project to replace Redbox’s swipe only credit card readers with chip capable card readers (EMV). Did backend development with Chase and Bluefin to decrypt and process chip/card contactless/mobile wallet EMV transactions. Worked with chase and card brands on certifications required to process EMV transactions.• Modified billing system to process credit cards using tokens instead of credit card numbers after initial swipe/chip read. Tokenized Redbox’s database of credit card numbers.• Led project to integrate with Vindicia’s Retain platform to increase collection rates on delinquent transactions.• Added ability to incrementally authorize transactions that haven’t yet been returned to keep transactions card present and reduce declines.• Designed recurring billing processor to handle Redbox’s subscription program along with any future subscription video on demand channel packages.• Led project to modernize digital transactional system to AWS cloud services.

I led a team of 4-6 developers working on the billing, customer, product, notification, and partner APIs supporting kiosk/web/mobile store fronts.• Enhanced billing system to submit expired or lost/stolen credit cards to payment processor to get updated expiration dates/new account numbers increasing collectability.• Added rules engine allowing for authorizing transactions at higher amount based on cart/credit card/kiosk location attributes.• Built new customer APIs around enrolling in text club messages and for signing into the kiosk using phone number/pin.• Designed loyalty APIs for Redbox’s loyalty program and integration with loyalty system vendor.• Led project to integrate Accertify fraud tool into transactional flow and reject rentals/purchases based on fraud score.• Added new billing APIs and a new transactional system to support Redbox On Demand digital offering.

I led a team of 5 developers working on the backend transactional, billing, and notification systems supporting the kiosk network. Kiosk locations grew to ~40K with transaction volumes exceeding 3.5M on peak days.• Optimized credit card batch processing to allow faster and more reliable submissions and response file processing.• Modified billing system to capture partial amount when full amount was not available. Remaining balances would be reattempted on a configurable schedule until either the full amount was captured, max attempts were reached, or a hard decline response was returned from the payment processor.• Led cross team project to integrate with First Data to offer a Redbox branded closed loop gift card.• Built system to process transactional and recurring subscription payments for Redbox Instant, a joint venture digital offering with Verizon.• Oversaw integration with third party email provider to send transactional emails.• Enhanced billing system to support different billing models due to passage of Durbin amendment. Went from multiple credit card charges for each disc to a single credit card charge when all discs were returned to reduce bank interchange fees.

I started as part of the original team taking over development from third party consulting company. Worked on all aspects of the Redbox software stack. Focus was on adding new features, balanced with technical debt and system scalability. Kiosk locations grew from 200 to over 30K, and daily transactions rose from tens of thousands to over a million on peak days.• Created collections processor for charging additional nights and unreturned disc sales.• Added offline capabilities so kiosks could rent/return without network connectivity.• Updated kiosk software for new hardware model with larger slots to accommodate brand new discs in retail packaging for purchasing.• Updated software stack to achieve PCI compliance as a level one merchant.• Prototyped and developed two-way communication between kiosk and server allowing local kiosk inventory to be validated real-time when placing a reservation via website and later the mobile app.• Implemented process allowing merchandisers to place a disc filled drum into the bottom of the kiosk to load inventory automatically during off peak hours instead of loading discs individually.• Developed a new transactional system to support migrating to a new, more reliable, payment processor.

Thatcher Technology Group is a consulting company providing services to direct selling companies. Clients included The Pampered Chef and CardintheBox as well as internal software projects.• Worked with a team of 7 to develop an internal compensation management tool marketed to direct sales organizations to help them manage their incentive and compensation programs combined with CRM• Developed new features for seasonal releases of windows product distributed to United States and Canadian kitchen consultants. Handled application support escalations and troubleshooting.• Designed and implemented ASP.NET greeting card system used by retailers online such as Godvia Chocolatier, Hickory Farms Corporate Sales, and Ethel M Chocolates. Also developed web services utilized by client warehouses to download orders, card printing, and maintaining billing information.• Developed a Java/JSP application to integrate with mainframe and Oracle inventory database to provide a consistent site for the home office to maintain inventory.
