CurrentI am a lawyer and Partner at Morton Fraser, one of the ten largest law firms in Scotland. I specialise in housebuilding, helping some of the UK's largest developers acquire both short terms sites and strategic land for residential development.My expertise helps identify risks and mitigate them as much as possible. It also helps me turn drafts around quickly- reducing the time taken to conclude contracts.• One of the biggest problems in the market at the moment is the length of time taken to get deals done. With developers more budget-conscious and landowners wary of potential price deductions, deals can take longer than previously. I can help cut through this, with a collaborative approach aiming quickly get to the main issues and get contracts concluded- helping developers to get on with building houses.• Another issue is delays in the Planning process. While we cannot ensure that a site is consented, our experienced Planning team help with all aspects of the Planning process- minimising delays and increasing the chances of planning applications and appeals being successful.• Changes in the law can always affect developers- recent examples being new Building Regulations, changes to agricultural tenancies and issues regarding Deeds of Conditions. I keep myself up to date with the latest developments in the legal and property world.
