Responsible for protecting the public through regulation of Kentucky's insurance market by reviewing actions of all licensees for compliance with the insurance laws and regulations of the state, monitoring the financial solvency of insurers, promoting viable insurance markets, and making certain that insurance consumers are treated fairly and equitably. In addition, responsible for executive policy, overall planning and management of divisions in the Department of Insurance.

Louisville, Kentucky Area

Perform the duties of an Examiner-in-charge for financial condition examinations of insurance companies representing the following states: Kentucky, Louisiana, Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. This process includes, but is not limited to, analyzing the Company’s balance sheet in relation to solvency issues, performing procedures promulgated by the National Association of Insurance Commissioner’s (NAIC), performing all relevant control and substantive testing procedures in relation to the risk-focused examination process, evaluating the insurance company’s management of operational and financial policies and procedures, examines various records of the insurance company to ensure compliance with relevant state laws and regulations, prepares a report for the Commissioner and communicates all findings and recommendations for changes and/or improvements to the company’s management.

Houston, Texas Area

Participated as an Examiner for financial condition examinations of insurance companies, representing Texas domiciled insurance companies. This examination process included, but was not limited to analyzing the Company’s balance sheet in relation to solvency issues, performing procedures promulgated by the National Association of Insurance Commissioner’s (NAIC), performing all relevant control and substantive testing procedures in relation to the examination process, evaluating the insurance company’s management of operational and financial policies and procedures, and examining various records of the insurance company to ensure compliance with relevant state laws and regulations.

Houston, Texas Area

Managed the statutory financial reporting area for three life and health companies with combined assets of approximately $400 million. Duties included but were not limited to the quarterly statutory financial statement and year-end close process; financial statement analysis; supervision of balance sheet reconciliations; premium tax reporting for approximately 46 states; budget vs. actual analysis; completion of all state insurance department reports/filings and coordination of all external audits and DOI examinations.

Arlington, Texas

Managed the statutory financial reporting area for a small property and casualty insurance company. Duties included, but were not limited to, the quarterly statutory financial statement and year-end close process; supervision of the claims billing accounts receivable function; supervision of the commission accounting area; financial statement analysis; established financial policies and procedures for the accounting department; assisted with annual external audits; and designed, tested and implemented the interface between the claims billing accounts receivable system and the Freedom General Ledger system.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa Area

Assisted insurance clients with the development of implementation plans for general ledger and accounts payable system conversions and providing consulting services for all phases of these conversion projects. Duties included, but were not limited to, a site-survey to identify and assess each insurance client’s needs; chart of accounts development; design, testing and conversion of company’s data from old general ledger system to the Freedom general ledger system; mappings from general ledger account balances to annual statement line items; and design/development of ad-hoc reports based on clients request.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Responsibilities included preparation of Statutory (including all state supplemental filings) and GAAP financial statements for four life and health insurance entities. Duties included but were not limited to monthly close process; budget vs. actual preparation and analysis; various management reports; oversee premium tax filings and payroll area; oversee all reconciliations; and quarterly and year-end statutory financial statements and related filings. Assisted with all related external audits and DOI financial examinations.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Responsibilities included maintaining and updating all investment transactions; preparation of all state premium tax returns (including quarterly pre-payments for 48 states); and preparation of commission accounting general ledger reconciliations and various balance sheet reconciliations.
