Design of LED and solar lighting products.

Semi-involved with IPA while working for Zumtobel.I designed switching power supplies for LED lighting and a battery backed up one for metal halide lighting.Duties included the design of switch mode power supplies, PCB layout, and circuit board debug. I was the first electrical engineer hired in the company's desire to get into the LED lighting industry.The time I spent there was tooling up a brand new discipline in LED lighting for this company.

Flat panel plasma display electronics engineerEngineered designs of power supplies, analog, and digital circuits for use within flat panel plasma displays. Power supply designs ranged from 10 to 1000 Watts. Types included Half and full bridge, fly-back, critical conduction mode, buck, boost, and power factor correction types. Various plasma panel analog and digital circuits designed. Involved with product enclosure design and cabling. Lead engineer in passing products through FCC and UL acceptance process.Travel to Japan as an engineering interface with parent company.CAD design of multilayer printed circuit boards (schematics and PCB).Radiated and conducted emissions testing, and environmental testing.Design of transformers and inductors for power supplies and plasma panels.Research and design of various analog and digital circuits for plasma displays.

Supported production manufacturing of electronically commutated DC fans for the military/aerospace group. Duties included debugging of production products, analyzing field failures and supporting manufacturing. Analysis to component level.

Developed AC-DC and DC-DC (10W-15kW) switch-mode power supplies, including high-power factor, low input-current harmonics types. Products include the low-voltage high-current (2-6V, 200-450A) versions used in System 390 mainframes. Experience was in the analysis and development of multi-feedback control loops, inductor and transformer prototyping, design of power switching circuits, chassis and circuit board layout, machining of custom parts, and design and fabrication of test sites.Performed electrical, thermal, vibration, and EMC testing on regulators.Automated control and testing of regulators using BASIC and C languages. GPIB, parallel, RS232, and direct buss communications of digital and A/D / D/A interfaces.Performed failure analysis and early life failure tracking of manufactured products.Interfaced with outside assembly houses to resolve production issues.Traveled nationally and internationally to IBM and subcontractor sites to solve Production problems.Worked as team member for ISO9000 certification.Purchased all types of components and equipment associated with product development.

Designed, built, and evaluated circuits in analog, TTL, CMOS, and ECL environments. Logic speeds to 500MHz, 300ps edges, and 100ps accuracies for circuits used in wafer testers for mainframe products. Performed hybrid circuit design, CAD layout, chip placement and bonding, wire bonding, test site design and assembly, and testing. I designed and made test sites for circuit board testing. Oversaw and trained department temporary employees. Wrote software for test sites in Basic and C. Wrote operations manuals for custom test equipment.

I managed an engineering lab and performed technical work on microprocessor-based energy management and time card products.
