The ASU School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning spent time cleaning and analyzing the data to look at characteristics of the crashes themselves, hazardous elements of the built environment, and the development of a pedestrian volume model to determine where pedestrian activity is in the city. My responsibilities included:- Examining previous case studies in other cities/regions- Using R statistical coding language and RStudio to sort and clean data for statistical analysis- Performing exploratory data analysis to examine which variables stand out- Assisting in the development of a multivariate statistical model- Geocoding the crashes themselves to develop heat maps of the crashes in QGIS- Using spatial joins in QGIS to match census data for statistical analysis- Assisting in the development of mitigation measures for the CityThis project not only assisted me in completing my graduate degree, but will also assist the city in making informed, good-faith investments in the hopes of improving pedestrian safety and active mobility. -
