Arizona State University entered into a partnership with the City of Phoenix to examine the characteristics of serious and fatal pedestrian crashes and how to lessen them. The ASU School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning spent time cleaning and analyzing the data to look at characteristics of the crashes themselves, hazardous elements of the built environment, and the development of a pedestrian volume model to determine where pedestrian activity is in the city. My responsibilities included:- Examining previous case studies in other cities/regions- Using R statistical coding language and RStudio to sort and clean data for statistical analysis- Performing exploratory data analysis to examine which variables stand out- Assisting in the development of a multivariate statistical model- Geocoding the crashes themselves to develop heat maps of the crashes in QGIS- Using spatial joins in QGIS to match census data for statistical analysis- Assisting in the development of mitigation measures for the CityThis project not only assisted me in completing my graduate degree, but will also assist the city in making informed, good-faith investments in the hopes of improving pedestrian safety and active mobility.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant (TA), I assisted in teaching PUP 190/SOS 111, Sustainable Cities to a diverse group of students. 300+ students in the Fall semester and 150+ students in the Spring semester take this class from all different age cohorts and from many different areas of study. My duties as a TA included grading the four written assignments the students were given during the course of the semester, facilitating the mid-term and final examinations, writing test questions with the instructor and five other TAs, and serving as a point of contact for students should they require assistance or have any questions about the course.

The WSP team also provided grant proposal support for various public agencies in the LA area, including BUILD grant consulting services.My duties included writing reports, conducting research, spatial analysis, and creating visual maps for various EIS/EIR documents our team has been working on for our clients.

As part of the Capital and Service Development (CSD) division of Valley Metro RPTA, I worked as a Capital Planning Intern. Valley Metro is diligently working on ongoing projects such as the South Central Phoenix Light Rail Extension, Tempe Streetcar, Northwest Phase II, and the Arizona Capital/I-10 West Light Rail Extension. Valley Metro has also been working on Alternatives Analyses for both the Fiesta District and Arizona Avenue within the City of Mesa, working to determine how Valley Metro can enhance accessibility by studying the possibility of high-capacity transit corridors within these areas. A study regarding Urban Goods Movement through Downtown Tempe, AZ was conducted by the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. This study examined the effects of freight deliveries to the vibrant entertainment district of Mill Avenue through Tempe. Other spots examined were 6th Street, College Avenue, Veterans Way, 5th Street, Forest Avenue, and more. My duties included analyzing impacts of freight deliveries on the bike and traffic lanes, counting frequency of freight deliveries, data entry and analysis, and recording impacts to pedestrian flow. This study concluded at the end of the 2017-2018 Arizona State University academic year.
