I spent much of my time reaching out to cities and townships in the state to engage in document gathering and discussion regarding the MMMP, MMFLA (Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act) and pending Recreational Bill of 2018. Additionally I wrote a number of articles engaging with the insurance, real estate, and regulation side of the industry for the Bricks + Mortar website. It was truly eye opening to hear how fearful some municipalities are of federal retribution against their agricultural incentives should they choose to engage with cannabis. Some smaller areas had not even heard of the commercial program at all (MMFLA), so i was the first they had heard of the news. This was despite the fact that the bills were signed into effect by Governor Snyder in 2016, thus further expanding my realization that cannabis education and awareness needs to improve. Furthermore, I became convinced that cannabis from an agricultural perspective needs to have means of benefiting farmers in rural communities, and am presently developing systems to do just that.
