Psychiatry Resident

Jul 2024 - Present

Research Assistant

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

As a research assistant, I worked on two different projects, namely, a case series about the adverse effects of checkpoint inhibitors and evaluation of an educational program that aims to teach rheumatology residents and faculty on how to conduct goals of care conversations. We received funding from the Department of Rheumatology and Palliative Care.

Jun 2020 - Nov 2021

Research Assistant

Toronto, Canada Area

As a research assistant with the Healthy Ageing and Geriatrics Program, I worked on a scoping review of hospital volunteer programs for older adults as well as performed descriptive statistics of MAUVE (Maximizing Ageing Using Volunteer Engagement) datasets that contain patient demographics and characteristics of volunteer visits. I also shadowed geriatricians in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as attend talks and sessions regarding older adult care.

May 2019 - Jun 2020

Student Intern

Toronto, Canada Area

Over the course of this 7-week internship with the Baycrest Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI), I learned more about the fields of aging and geriatrics. I shadowed different healthcare professionals in hospital and long-term care settings. I worked on cases and readings that dealt with healthcare topics such as depression, dementia, delirium, medical ethics, advance care planning and client-centred care. I attended numerous workshops on arts-based learning in healthcare, simulation, brain and aging, innovation and research, and health outcomes of LGBT older adults. In this internship, I worked on multiple projects. I worked on a project that utilized appreciative inquiry to gather the perspectives of long-term care staff about innovation and creativity. The findings were reported through a poster and presentation to Baycrest leadership. I also worked on an arts-based project that aimed to disprove the myth that older adults are incapable of learning new technologies. The arts-based project touched upon the notion of “universal usability” where development and creation of technologies should take every type of person into account including older adults.

Jul 2018 - Aug 2018

Student Advising Assistant

Toronto

During advising appointments, I provided assistance to incoming science students. I recommended courses that will help them complete their degree requirements as well as achieve their long-term goals (e.g. getting into professional school or graduate school). I shared my experiences in the university setting. I also prepared student files that included important documents such as high school transcripts, transfer credit reports and degree checklists . I coordinated with other advising assistants and staff to provide advising support to science students.

May 2018 - Jul 2018

Student Ambassador Coordinator

Toronto

I managed a team of 35 volunteers who represent and promote the Faculty of Science at recruitment events (e.g. Ontario Universities' Fair, Fall Campus Day). In cooperation with the recruitment officer, I delegated roles and duties to the volunteers based on their availability, what they were comfortable doing and most importantly, the skills that they wished to improve (e.g. public speaking skills). I scheduled meetings where the volunteers shared feedback and concerns about events. I worked with other coordinators to organize leadership retreats and training events. I was instrumental in the creation and growth of an Instagram account that features science at York University. I vetted volunteer applications, conducted interviews and made hiring decisions. In early 2018, the SA program collaborated with Science Engagement to organize the Science Rendezvous event at Markham. As coordinator, I divided the student ambassadors into committees who were in charge of different aspects of the event (e.g. advertising, coordinating volunteers, programs and logistics).

May 2016 - Jul 2018

Pass (Peer-Assisted Study Session) Leader

Toronto

I facilitated two weekly sessions where first-year students can come in and productively discuss material amongst themselves. I gave study tips and created learning aids (e.g. powerpoint and handouts). I wrote mock tests that prepare students for upcoming midterms. I created and moderated a Facebook group where students collaborated with each other online. The 'PASS' program is based on the SI Model that was developed by the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
