Structure types include commercial high rise, aircraft hanger, higher education, military maintenance facility, military headquarters, auditorium, healthcare, parking structure, timber/concrete pier, mooring dolphin, environmental structure, signal pole foundation, and wireless communication installation.Project types include new construction, renovation, seismic evaluation/rehabilitation, ATFP evaluation/retrofit, designing for accidental explosions, expansion, evaluation and repair, condition report and load rating, and special inspection. Experience includes performing calculations, report writing, and presentations.Lateral systems include steel braced frames and moment frames, concrete and masonry shear walls, and cold-formed steel strap bracing. Framing systems include steel joists, composite and non-composite steel beams, one-way and two-way concrete slabs, and cold –formed steel. Foundation systems include driven piles, augercast piles, rammed aggregate piers, spread footings, and drilled piers.Experience with coordinating with pre-engineered metal building consultant, post-tensioned beam and slab consultant, and geotechnical/subsurface investigation consultant.Structural software used include RISA 2D/3D, RAM Structural System, SAFE 2014, StaadPro, spSlab, spColumn, SBEDS.Highly proficient at Microsoft Excel spreadsheet writing and vetting. Worked part-time while a full-time student at Virginia Tech. Duties included measuring, weighing, capping, and performing compressive strength testing on concrete cylinder specimens and grout cubes. Reporting and documenting testing results, as well as maintaining the curing enclosure. Duties also included performing soil tests, including sieve analysis, standard and modified proctors, Atterburg Limits, and California Bearing Ratio tests.

This summer internship focused on gaining experience with special inspections, shop drawings, steel design, and multi-discipline coordination.

Richmond, Virginia, Us

The first half of this internship was performed out of the Roanoke, VA office. Training on concrete specimen testing protocols, on-site concrete testing (air content, slump, cylinder sampling, etc), soil density gauge safety and operation (Nuclear Gauge), and spray-on fireproofing testing protocols was provided.The second half of this internship was spent on a construction site in Pocohontas, VA assisting an on-site testing technician. Due to the large active construction site, the responsibilities were divided and proper oversight was provided.
