Cartwheel Arts develops high quality, community-based arts projects which promote well-being, social inclusion and cohesion, diversity and regeneration. Cartwheel has an impressive track record in devising and delivering projects which bring communities together, build capacity and promote a sense of ownership and pride. Projects address issues such as health inequalities, sexual health, adult and family literacy, social exclusion, safer environments and territorialism.

Four Acre Trust supports charities that give individuals - mainly children and young people - help in making the most of their lives. Supported activities include youth clubs, residential breaks and mentoring and befriending schemes. In this role I visited grant applicants, reviewed their bids for funding and made recommendations to the trustees. I was also involved in the ongoing management of some Four Acre-funded projects to ensure the effective use of the Trust's funding.

As a Relationship Manager I was a primary Audit Commission contact for inspection and improvement management with a wide range of local authorities. I also led nine Comprehensive Performance Assessment teams between 2005 and 2008, carrying out inspections of county, unitary, metropolitan and district councils. Previously I contributed to the strategic development of public sector inspection at national level and as a member of the regional inspection management team in the North of England.

On secondment from the Audit Commission, I played a leading role in local authority improvement and the development of government local area agreements with 22 North West councils. I also acted as as a Lead Official for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in this period, working with a number of district councils on recovery planning and service improvement.
