As the supervisor for the lifeguarding staff I had many responsibilities. I was responsible for the management and operations of 7 pools, 3 slides, a diving board, and a Flowrider. I coordinated the efforts of the lifeguarding staff, I was also responsible for handling scheduling issues, which included complying with all laws regarding minors working. I trained new guards on policies and procedures of the facility while also testing the skills of current employees. I communicated bother verbally and in writing with my superiors and the 160+ guards on staff. I was also responsible for responding to and resolving customer services issues that arose with our patrons. I responded to and took charge of numerous first aid situations, some of which were very serious in nature. I was promoted to this position after proving my skills and abilities.

As an intern for Carmel Clay Parks Recreation, I worked with the Division Manager for the Monon Community Center. I was involved in many different aspects of the organization. One was a review of the entire budgeting process. They use a bottom up system, so I started there and then worked through the process that led to a city council budget meeting. Along with the budgeting, I also review the customer service approach. One of the best experiences I gain was to be able to see the process of hiring a Facilities Manager. This included screening through all the resumes to the final interview. I was also able to examine the marketing campaign as well as have an in depth conversation with the head of marketing. Among these many other things, I also attended senior parks department meeting on a weekly basis. This position along with the other I have held in the organization allowed me to have a truly unique understanding of how things were run. I was able to see new policies and procedures be developed and then implement throughout the organization.

I was responsible for managing the lifeguard staff that totals around 100 individuals during the summer. Of which 25 worked at the same time. My responsibilities included a wide rage of things but here are just a few. I was responsible for the safety and operations of 7 pools, 3 slides, a diving board, and a Flowrider (simulated surfing machine). Responded to emergency situations that occurred that the park. Trained new guards and test more experienced ones. Handled and responded accordingly to concerns and criticisms from patrons.
