I was trained as a cognitive psychologist at Vanderbilt University and ran an education research lab as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Delaware, where I continue to hold an affiliated Asst. Professor of Education position. Most of my academic research experience has been dedicated to understanding how people use technology and how to improve learning. As I transitioned from creating new knowledge to applying it in industry, I have been involved in developing, supporting, and improving educational technology that can create meaningful and scalable impacts.I have a strong background in quantitative methods and research design, both from course work and from professional experience. Given my inner data nerd, I feel one of the primary ways that technology can improve education is by leveraging data thoughtfully.Building from my background in learning and driven by a passion for action and problem solving, I have enjoyed leading at start-ups where I can contribute to the direction of the company and guide product development while exercising the broad range of skills I have amassed as a human-centered researcher and within the go-to-market parts of a business. I love the excitement of working to build and support the adoption of important and innovative technology and then seeing the impact that can have.Specialties: data-driven decision making, game design, gamification, human subjects research, statistics, study design
