Currently this position entails handling the procurement needs for the Operations & Construction Department for capital purchases and also includes purchasing activities for the individual schools such as class trips, yearbook & pictures, graduation products and rings, and other school purchases as needed. Most of the spending for capital purchases is construction related, whether it is a large renovation, or more specific tasks within the school system such as security measures, roofing, paving, or HVAC improvement, for example.The primary duties include soliciting for goods and services by requesting quotes, bids, and proposals (RFP) while meeting the requirements of the Virginia Public Procurement Act (VPPA) and the Roanoke County Procurement Code. Carrying out these duties sometimes entails drafting the entire solicitation document including the scope of work and specifications. In addition, the position requires preparing and processing purchase orders, keeping track of vendors, keeping track of project accounts and handling invoicing matters associated with all of the department's capital purchasing. Record keeping of purchasing documentation, payment information and other forms is another required function.Additional assigned duties not listed here due to lack of space.
