Greater New Orleans Area

Serves as the Director of Research Compliance Program for Tulane’s research portfolio, working directly under the Vice President for Research. Areas of regulatory compliance include use of humans as research subjects, use of animals in research, use of recombinant DNA in research, use of infectious agents, use of radiation, review and resolution of potential financial conflicts of interest by members of the university community, and negotiation of and compliance with terms and conditions of grant and clinical trial contracts. Serves as the university’s Research Integrity Officer for responding to and addressing allegations of research misconduct. Directs the university’s Responsible Conduct of Research Training Program. Member of the following Tulane University boards and committees: Conflicts of Interest Committee, Internal Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee, Research Compliance Operations Committee (Committee Chair), Compliance Steering Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, International Research Group, Environmental Health and Safety Operations Committee, and University Research Council. Served as the university’s research representative for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaccreditation process. Integral team member for obtaining accreditation for the IRB and reaccreditation for the IACUC. Conducts numerous for-cause and not-for-cause audits of research projects to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as university policies, and oversees corrective action plans as necessary. Serves as the direct contact person with federal and state regulators in all matters of research compliance. Additional duties include responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and being continually available to answer questions and provide advice and guidance to faculty, staff, and students regarding research-related regulations and policies.

Practice areas included general commercial and consumer litigation, contract drafting and negotiation, bankruptcy, security devices, foreclosures, commercial loan closings, financial transactions, insurance litigation, and estate planning. Extensive experience representing creditors in chapters 7, 11, 12, and 13 bankruptcies (“workouts,” motion practice, and trials) and representing debtors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations. Practiced before state and federal courts at the trial and appellate level. Successfully located office space for the firm in Baton Rouge following Hurricane Katrina in order for the firm to regroup and continue working until the reopening of the city.
