Growing up I dreamed of becoming an actress. So I did what all aspiring actresses did: I focused on winning roles, going to auditions, and hoping for the best.As time went on, I came to a confidence-shattering realization. Getting acting jobs was out of my control. My future was at the whim of a casting director. Once this came into focus, I knew acting was no longer an option. And after some soul searching, I had an epiphany. I discovered there was just as much beauty, talent, and creativity behind the camera as there was in front of it.So, at age 16 I decided being a makeup artist was a passion worth pursuing. I had a knack for it and loved the human artistry involved, so I enrolled in cosmetology school and began my production career.As an agency-signed makeup artist & hairstylist, I specialized in advertising, production, & still photography. I became immersed in the world of marketing and branding, working on sets for companies like Bloomingdales & Famous Footwear.I was on the set for the now-famous images of Ezekiel Elliott in the ESPN Magazine Body Issue, & was a hairstylist for Mariah Carey & LeAnn Rimes, among others. While this was fun, I started to think about the experience from a different perspective. Because of my business upbringing, I was naturally treating these gigs like simple business transactions. I’d been trading time for dollars, which is not a recipe for long-term success.I started my first business, called Makeup Artists Unleashed, at age 25. I taught aspiring makeup, artists & stylists, how to hone their craft, featuring celebrity makeup artists while I focused on teaching the business side. I loved the education piece but eventually, live events and traveling became draining. So, I started the Beauty Boss Network, a membership platform for the beauty industry, which was the perfect precursor for the 2 hats I wear now: Creative Director for eWomenNetwork, and Co-Producer at Celebrity Science.I was initially hesitant to work in the family business, but I’ve created my own lane, tapping into my branding knowledge and creativity.In my agency role, I learned the “why” behind visual elements in a campaign and the reasoning behind the process, which adds tremendous value to the eWomenNetwork brand. I’ve applied every stage of my life to this work. Empowering women to show up in alignment with their brand is instrumental in our mission. A principle of eWN is that your voice has a massive impact on your bottom line. I’m thankful to have found my own voice because of this ongoing journey.
