Director Of Communications
CurrentThe Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) was established in 2008 and is funded by a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (National Institutes of Health grant UL1TR003096). We are one of more than 50 CTSA programs nationwide and the only CTSA in Alabama. CCTS serves a population with a heavy burden of cardiometabolic, vascular, and cancer-related diseases.The CCTS Partner Network, which comprises 11 academic research institutions across our tri-state region (AL, MS, LA), is the foundation of our collaborative efforts. The Network launched in 2015 (see a CCTS timeline of events from 2008 to 2019). Our network-wide research environment is defined by unique collaborative opportunities and resources that provide the scope, scale, and transdisciplinary capacity necessary to achieve our vision, mission, and aims.
Associate Director
Assist in the operation of the UAB Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), playing a critical role in designing and executing professional development programs that improve the effectiveness of UAB faculty and other instructors in the areas of student learning and engagement through excellence in teaching across the UAB campus. Duties Include:-Assist and lead faculty development programs to advance the achievement of university learning goals and the University Strategic Plan, including initiatives supporting University accreditation and the Quality Enhancement Plan- Engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning, pursue internal and external grant funding for faculty and curriculum development and in support of the CTL programs- Assist, collaborate, and/or partner with individuals and organizations across the UAB campus to develop faculty and enhance student learning. Specific areas include developing/improving courses, curricula, and learning environments as well as the interpretation of teaching evaluations- Design instructional resources that promote pedagogical methods appropriate to specific disciplinary settings and a diverse study body- Conduct consultations and classroom observation services for faculty and support teaching portfolio development- Strategic planning and cultivating partnerships on campus to identify new needs and opportunities. - Stay abreast of literature and best practices on teaching and learning and network with national groups and individuals

Information Systems Specialist
Provided technology support to students, faculty, and staff for the College of Arts and Sciences at UAB. This included hardware support, software support, and any consultation/advising needs pertaining to the use or intended use of technology used to enhance and advance the educational experience at UAB. While this primarily consisted of troubleshooting/solving problems and repairing personal and lab computers, it also involved continual research and development of new technologies which may be used at a later time. Duties included the support of faculty and staff technology for the Humanities Building, Hulsey Center, parts of the Alys Stephens Center, plus any other areas overseen by CAS-IT as needed. This also included the following departments/programs/groups: African American Studies, Art and Art History, English, Foreign Language and Literatures, Music, Philosophy, Theatre, i2T2, the University Writing Center, UAB Honor’s program. Also included; the continual upkeep of classroom labs used for instruction. These labs included 3 in the English Department, 3 in the Department of Art and Art History, 1 in the Theatre Department, 1 in the Department of Communication Studies, and 1 in the Department of Music. Because of my music teaching experience along with my technical knowledge, I served as the main lab administrator for the Computer Music Lab in HC317. I also administered a Mac OS X server (Moog) used exclusively for the Music Department’s Music Technology courses. This involved adding users requested by course instructors, along with shared and private folders used by the students in the course of the semester. Because of my faculty experience, I also served as an Instructional Technology contact, provided first level support for “Faculty Resources” issues in BlazerNet, consulted and advised for Blackboard, Wimba representative, and until the recent formation of the new Instructional Technology attended Blackboard administrator meetings.
