Dept. Head/ Instructor Collision Repair & Refinish Technology
CurrentI am the Department Head and Instructor of the Collision Repair and Refinish Technology program at Coastal Carolina Community College. We have a one-year Diploma as well as 5 Certificates. Since taking this role I have streamlined the program from being broad and overly general to focusing on producing employable entry-level, Collision and Refinish Technicians. As the Department Head, I am responsible for building the program courses, selecting and planning content from textbooks for classwork and lecture, researching and working with Advisory Committee to establish necessary industry goals for entry-level techs and planning a curriculum to meet these goals. I also incorporate the I-CAR PDE program to enhance industry relevance and to provide graduates with Pro-Level 1 Certifications as Non-Structural and Refinish Technicians. I am also responsible for building the yearly budget, scheduling required services to equipment and facilities, and advising students entering and progressing through my program. I work with other instructors to plan related courses ( English, Communications, Math, etc) that provide students with the required skills and meet state guidelines. I also participate in numerous Professional Development seminars and training to enhance my skills as both a teacher and to keep up to date with the Collision Industry.
