My role at Carlisle Classic Homes encompasses both energy services and construction work. I perform a variety of energy audits and assessments for customers. Audits result in detailed analysis and documentation of how issues with efficiency, durability, indoor air quality and comfort can be improved. When in the field doing construction I serve as a resource to coworkers on details to make a home more efficient as well as learning a lot about construction.

I served as an Energy Auditor Team Lead. I worked to ensure delivery of quality energy audits that contain detailed recommendations for the homeowners. The company did audits through Community Power Works Audits and Puget Sound Energy. The appeal of the company was helping people improve their home comfort with an eye on innovative architectural modifications that can increase efficiency.With our growing company capacity, I learned first hand the carpentry skills and product knowledge necessary to retrofit homes to perform more efficiently. I completed over 75 home audits in the Seattle area in this position.

Greater Pittsburgh Area

As Manager of the Pittsburgh Green House I worked with staff to provide a broad curriculum of classes based around energy efficiency and sustainability designed for industry professionals and do-it-yourself home owners. I taught and adapted a variety of classes focusing on interactive and hands-on teaching to empower participants to reduce their own energy use through efficiency measure and techniques. This position also broadened my experience with community engagement, management skills and many aspects of running a small business.

As the Sustainability Data Analyst, I work to monitor utility data for our properties to determine where there are opportunities for energy savings. Using the 'Energy Score Cards' brand software, it is possible to view all properties energy use and prioritize resident education, retrofits and professional consultation. The role of the Retrofit Specialist is to make sure that recommended upgrades include a reduced environmental impact as well as good financial returns on investment.In the last 9 months of my employment, I took on the additional title and responsibility of Manager for the Pittsburgh Green House, a training facility designed to teach contractors and the general public about different methods to increase home energy efficiency. Assisted by the team I managed, we designed curriculum for home owners and industry professionals to sharpen skills and learn new skills around energy efficiency in buildings.

Green Bridge Energy was committed to helping non-profits realize energy savings through energy conservation. Our unique financing abilities allowed us opportunities to provide renewable energy through a power purchase agreement. Most of my role at Green Bridge was to conduct comprehensive energy audits and talk clients through the recommendation. Clients were also benefited from ongoing energy monitoring and follow-up.

My work at the Environmental Management Assistance Program as a Research Assistant provided the framework for my experience in linking what I learned in my academic studies with practical situations where small businesses were in need of energy audits and environmental permitting. I was able to assist my boss, JR Nordstrom, with a variety of tasks, including performing energy audits on over 10 small businesses, which taught me about energy efficiency. Although JR has deleted his LinkedIn profile, he did send me the following recommendation:"During Brian's internship with the Gannon University SBDC's EMAP program he was a key player in providing support to our clients covering 10 counties in Pennsylvania. I relied on Brian to provide accurate and timely data to be incorporated into reports which focused upon reducing the client's environmental footprint via energy efficiency recommendations. When work load permitted Brian also showed the initiative to take on additional projects from other consultants at our Center in order to broaden his experiences. During his internship he was extremely reliable, professional during interactions with clients and proved to have a great work ethic.
