Among other things, conduct trademark searches to clear words, phrases and designs for use and registration; provide legal counsel on search reports to determine use and registration availability; direct outside counsel in clearance and prosecution work in foreign jurisdictions; review and analyze trademark watch notices; provide general IP Guidance various topics; and manage prosecution of trademarks worldwide, including, drafting office action responses, renewals, ownership transfer documents and licenses.

Counseled clients on the selection, clearance, prosecution, registrability and enforcement of trademarks and copyrights throughout the world.

Conducted knockout and preliminary searches for a variety of marks; analyzed clearance searches and prepared written opinions regarding the scope of protection and registrability for marks in various industries including wine & spirits; authored cease and desist letters to infringers of clients’ trademarks; responded to cease and desist letters on behalf of clients; executed trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (“TTAB”); prepared consent, coexistence, assignment and license agreements; managed a docket of active U.S. and international trademarks; and researched copyright, advertising, sweepstakes and privacy law issues.

Lead, mentor, and develop separate groups of professionals into top performers while ensuring compliance with agency policies, procedures and quality measures; authored appeal briefs and represented the agency in oral arguments before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board regarding likelihood of confusion, surname, disparagement, mere descriptiveness and failure to function issues.

Drafted multiple orders, including three published decisions, in various inter partes proceedings before the TTAB; and composed statutory and procedural decisions, successfully argued ex parte appeals and reviewed hundreds of trademark applications for regulatory compliance.
