What do you need help with? I work from vague concepts (and hand-waving) through producing Requirements; Architecture; Specifications (heavy on documentation); to Managing Development; DFM; BOM optimization; Procurement and Supplier Partnering; to Compliance, Pilot Production, Production and Distribution; and (we're not done yet) Warranty Service; Support; Design Updates; and Field Upgrades; and (we're still not done) Product End-of-Life strategy, plans, replacement. PAST MARKETS include Automotive, Defense, Industrial, IoT, IIoT, Medical and Telecom. In the future, I'd like to stick closer to the metal on HW in Automotive and IoT, while pushing higher up in the SW on automated tools. MY Passions are DESIGN EFFICIENCIES THROUGH PLATFORM DEVELOPMENT as I've done for > 2 decades with the creation of COM and SOM integrated packages of CPU and OS (or RTOS), with SW development pain "softened" by the addition of support for higher-level languages, such as JAVA (SUN Certified; then IBM J9, certified, with JAVA.AWT graphics); Python (with PyGTK supported, along with a collection of design automation tools); Android (the first, maybe only, port of "modern Android" with JIT technology onto NXP's i.MX28 family -- with JAVAX.COM added -- because somebody at Google mistakenly left it out of Android), etc. I'm also big on code-reuse. Which requires "cross platform" capabilities. Like the "task-to-task messaging" or RPC that I created for Industrial Controls and Security, and improved over 3 decades. It lets processes talk to each other on the same CPU, or talk to processes on other CPUs (over SPI, Ethernet, UART, USB, ISM, Zigbee, BT, Thread, WiFi) running the SAME SOURCE CODE on Linux, Windows, RTOS or Bare Metal -- the latter running on my own "micro-OS" as deployed on 8, 16, and 32-bit processors since 1990. (and really, nothing has changed much, except the development tools are much better, and the processors are much faster)INTERESTS: SW, RISC (ARM, RISC-V, etc)

Growing a world leader in low-power, low-cost cable-replacement technologies based on ZigBee and other wireless standards. Working on projects from advanced lighting controls to smart-grid components.Developed and demonstrated the world's first working ZigBee lighting controls at Lightfair International 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. While companies struggled with "how to scale" wireless control networks, we formulated the now universal solution: "Smart devices, connected, make Smart Rooms. And Smart Rooms, connected, make Smart Buildings." And Smart Buildings, connected, make Smart Campuses/town/cities/etc.

Product manager, project manager, engineering manager, and system architect. Tasked with moving the company from "proof-of-concept" prototype to low-cost, flexible, manufacturable product. Designed and implemented the company's touted "Multi-Board Archicture" from proposal through implementation including PCB design and layout. Trained new-hires on distributed processing as a means of cost- and complexity reduction as well as training on robust, state-driven SW development. Results: cut HW board costs in half, while creating a very flexible architecture that can be quickly targeted at any application with low development costs.

Completely re-designed all the electronics to: improve performance; make it more robust (especially resistant to lightening strikes); and reduce costs by 60%. Completely replaced all the software to: improve performance; support more video formats; support portability across operating systems. Led on-site teams for commissioning of the largest projects in USA and Mexico.

Product manager, project manager, engineering manager, and system architect. Managed a department of 8 who "invented" self-serve credit-card payment terminals in North America. In fact, we were the first third-party CC processor in North America, and as such the first company to submit "multi-merchant" transactions to both VISA and Mastercard. Products (HW & SW) were developed in-house, using all CMOS chips and assembly-language programming on Kadak's AMX RTOS and my own home-brew OS for the small micros. Developed and supported over 50 products deployed in a dozen countries over 4 continents.Trionics grew to be the most profitable company with sales over $1 MM on the Vancouver Stock Exchange.

Designed and implemented a 2D CADD package on the NEC APC computers, first running UCSD-P-system, then CPM-86, then MS-DOS.Package had more features than AutoCAD, and ran roughly 10x the speed from floppies with no floating-point compared to AutoCAD running with a math co-processor from a HD.(we had 1.25 Meg 8" floppies back then, when the IBM PC had 360k 5" drives)

Designed a Standard-Cell library, and then Chips implemented using that library, and built on GTE's 5-micron ISO-CMOS process in Arizona.
