Codebase over 3.5 million lines of executable code. Responsible for system architecture, primary system troubleshooting / debugging, productivity improvement tools, new hire mentoring, and many embedded components including inter-process TCP/IP communication protocols, scanning drop detection, dynamic print to edge architecture, hardware abstraction, low level motor control, firmware/electronics integration. Point contact for software, quality, UI, mechanical, and electrical teams with question/assistance/debugging of embedded or system issues. One patent filed. Development in C++ with parts in Tcl, Python, and Bash scripting. Product ran embedded Linux on Intel Atom processor as well as ThreadX on multiple ARM processors.April 2004 to September 2008: PhotoSmart pe1000/pm1000/pm2000 (Retail Photo Kiosk/Photo Minilabs), RPS R&D. March 2001 to April 2004: PhotoSmart psc 2100, 2300, 2500 (All-in-One Printers), AiO R&D. Technical lead for team of 10 engineers. Responsible for scan and new scan modes, system manager, memory card contention issues, RAM/ROM budgeting, defect analysis, image pipeline, and I/O subsystem. Member of “Jaws” team consisting of a member of marketing, R&D, and customer satisfaction responsible for driving all remaining issues to resolution in final phase of project. Used heavily as a fire fighter to attack serious unexpected issues that arose during the project such as setting up to allow dual JPEG pipes through the image pipeline, system contention issues, and print quality artifact resolution. One patent awarded. Developed in C for ThreadX/ARM.October 1999 to February 2001: Hansel Project, HID R&D. Sole HP engineer on program to implement HAVi remote control and video capture in an HP printer as a proof of concept. Worked with vendor who supplied HAVi base layers. Responsible for all embedded video compression and decompression software algorithms to and from digital video as no hardware support was available in the product. Responsible for user interface, system control, IEEE-1394 I/O system integration, and all printer functions. Product was publicly demonstrated at an IEEE-1394 convention. Two patents awarded. Developed in C for VX Works RTOS.January 1999 to September 1999: PhotoSmart 1100 (photo printer), HID R&D. This product was HP’s foray into the market with a printer that contained memory cards that allow printing images without a PC. Responsibilities included all interfaces between the PC and the printer including memory card protocols, I/O, and status information. Division’s I/O expert working both with USB and IEEE-1284 protocols. Developed in C for VX Works RTOS.

Eleven patents awarded. Software developed in C, PLC, Basic, and Forth.Summer 1983 & 1984: Summer intern inkjet R&D. Wrote color analysis software for analyzing and grading color gamut of ink/media combinations. Developed in Pascal and HP Basic.
