I led the AWS Health & Safety organization - a global team of over 100 people who define the safety policies, procedures, training, mechanisms, and methods that protect tens of thousands of employees and contractors working in AWS facilities in over 40 countries. This included partnering with Operations and Engineering leaders on the design of our buildings, equipment, and procedures to constantly improve safety for our employees. I brought a particular focus on how software and technology can automate and mechanize safety, reducing the risk of human error leading to injury.

In this global role I led thousands of security professionals to secure hundred sites in over 40 countries. This included defining security standards, practices, and policies; driving improvements in security performance; partnering with data center operations leadership and engineering design teams to improve overall physical security operations; and designing, building, and implementing hardware and software that automates both physical and media security at scale.

I was responsible the defining the operational plans ahead of building the datacenters, hiring and training the staff, and operating these facilities to provide the exceedingly high levels of safety, security, and operational availability that AWS customers demand.

Our tools allowed Amazon software teams to plan, request, receive, track, and manage their compute capacity. We provided fiscal controllership to the Amazon business teams, ensuring that every dollar spent on compute capacity has an owner responsible for the productivity of that capacity. We managed Opex budgets to ensure business teams don't exceed their allotted funding and manage the Capex spent to support business growth. We were deeply involved in securing the necessary compute capacity for launching new AWS regions, supporting new Amazon products, and scaling for Amazon's peak holiday shopping season. My team had a direct impact on Amazon customer experience by ensuring we always have enough capacity to support our customers' activity.

I led Amazon's HR Systems team, delivering purpose built and 3rd party software solutions to manage Amazon's people processes and data. This included recruiting, on-boarding, performance management, time and attendance, benefits, and stock systems. My team built and maintained integrations with internal and external systems including time clock solutions, external payroll vendors, benefits providers, and financial systems. We built custom software in Rails and managed a PeopleSoft infrastructure and associated contracts.

I led a team of Technical Project Managers (TPMs) for Amazon.com's internal IT organization, serving the HR Systems, Corporate Operations, Knowledge Management, Builder (Software Dev) Tools and Financial Systems organizations. I focus on building PM skills and capabilities for the org as well as leading a few projects of my own. Additionally I am the Business Operations manager for all of Corporate Applications IT, looking after budget, headcount, metrics, goals, and operational planning. I take care of the tactical day to day issues of running a 220+ person organization, allowing our VP to focus on strategic initiatives.

Were the "front door" to the IT Operations Projects organization. Team provided centralized project services including demand management, quarterly captial request oversight, hardware procurement, asset management, and organizational metrics and reporting.

Our role included defining standards, architecting solutions, and coordinating with DBA, Network, Datacenter, and Support personnel for the installation and go-live of datacenter hosted applications. As manager I grew the team by 50% and expanded our application and environment coverage to match.

I was the team lead for a group who deployed servers and software services in 5 data centers in the US, the UK, and Japan. I reduced deployments from a multi-day cross-team effort to a streamlined 2 hour process run by one person. I provided escalation support for customer, application, environment, and hardware issues at all data centers including traveling to customer sites to deal with complex service issues. I worked with sales team and management to present solutions to external Sun customers. I was the team lead for integrating an acquired company into our datacenter and software management processes.
