Has worked in nearly all facets of film exhibition, beginning as an art theatre manager before entering the film festival world in 1987. As the Golden Gate Awards Director at the San Francisco International Film Festival, developed its competitive section for documentaries and shorts into becoming one of the most prestigious competitions of its kind worldwide. Left San Francisco in 2001 for the Nashville Film Festival and served as Executive Director and then Artistic Director until May of 2008. Iinitiated an award presented by local resident Al Gore for the best environmental documentary of his choice, inaugurated two different awards for music in film and oversaw a dramatic increase in community outreach that helped increase and diversify the festival audience. Currently based in Manhattan, programming at the Gold Coast Arts Center, consulting with filmmakers and screening film submissions for such organizations as POV, Sundance and Tribeca.Also have headed and worked on different fundraising, membership and marketing campaigns, written grant applications, courted individual donors, developed and maintained budgets, formed partnerships with community organizations and supervised everyone from staff to interns to volunteers. Have overseen audience development, event planning, publicity and press, and operations. Have written program notes, press releases and catalog and sponsor packet copy.Served as juror at Chicago, Sidewalk, IndieMemphis and other film festivals.Headed Someone to Watch committee for IFP, 2002 and 2003.Recommended filmmakers for Rockefeller grants in 2001 & 2002, including Memphis filmmaker Craig Brewer, who received a Rockefeller grant in 2001.Presented program of American documentaries at Vue Sur Les Docs, Marseille, France, 2000Presented program of American shorts at British Short Film Festival, London, 1995
