Brianna Bennett is a sustainability professional in Massachusetts focused on community-based action and empowerment to address climate impacts.Brianna has worked as a Sustainability Coordinator for the Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant (HMLP) since 2021. She leads HMLP’s sustainability efforts, manages energy efficiency and electrification programs, and develops customer engagement strategies. As a part of her role, Brianna designed and implemented Electrify Hingham, a program concentrated on achieving HMLP’s mission to procure 100% carbon-free energy and the Town of Hingham’s goal to be Net Zero by 2040. In her role and through Electrify Hingham, Brianna’s customer-facing work includes adopting efficient electric buildings, transportation, distributed power generation and storage, and collaborative partnerships. Brianna was awarded the 2023 Rising Star award by the Municipal Electric Association of Massachusetts (MEAM) for her innovation and dedication to public power in her work. Brianna received her Masters from the Harvard Extension School (HES) in Sustainability. She also earned two HES certificates, one in Environmental Policy and International Development and one in Sustainable Cities and Communities. Brianna graduated from Merrimack College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Sustainability Studies and Political Science. Over time, Brianna hopes to continue working with communities and using her education to create lasting change that improves people’s livelihoods.
