Generosity Feeds is an annual meal packing event to help feed hundreds of food-insecure children in 25 different schools across Monroe County. The University Lutheran Generosity Feeds team of three members plans the event, working with Indiana University, local community members and local businesses to fundraise and engage volunteers from across Bloomington. Over 6 years, Generosity Feeds has created over 65,600 meals for these food insecure children in our community.

Elder: Jan 2019-Dec 2020President: Jan 2021-Dec 2021Secretary: Jan 2022-Dec 2022As a reflection of my involvement and impact of my work and commitment to the church, University Lutheran Church elected me as President for the 2021 calendar year. Before my election, I was the lead elder, aiding the pastor in worship and engaging with the church council as a voting member to meet organizational goals and maintain our presence in the community. As President, I implemented Robert’s Rules and anonymous zoom polling to ensure that members are heard and no one feels pressured into thinking or voting a certain way. Over the last year I have also been the church’s men’s small group leader. I created engaging presentations focused on Scripture and interpersonal relationships to encourage theological discussion at our events to build knowledge and community at the same time.

As a summer intern I prepared workpapers on a few 6/30 FYE audits as well as a number of Employee Benefit Plan audits in a number of different industries. I also created an Excel dashboard to visualize progress of audits compared to prior year to show Partners and Directors the engagements that need attention and resources. Through this experience, I was able to combine my technical skills with my soft skills to communicate with clients and in-charges and perform proper audit procedures.

As a peer coach, I had the opportunity to tutor students one on one in topics such as cost categorization, cost allocation and variance analysis. Instead of directly teaching them or telling the students how to do the problems, I promoted understanding through direct question and answer with students to build content comprehension and confidence with the material on exams. I earned a perfect evaluation score of 5 from every anonymous feedback survey by students who appreciated my help and saw how I helped them to achieve their potential in the class.

VITA is an IRS backed program that allows lower-income individuals to have their taxes done for free. I passed the IRS certification to be an advanced preparer and site coordinator by learning tax rules and utilizing IRS Publications 17 and 4012. I performed or quality reviewed at least three tax returns each week during tax season. More than just the taxes, I got to interact with a subset of the Bloomington community that I otherwise would not have, building connections and communicating important information related to clients' returns. By using my analytical and problem-solving skills, I played a part in bringing back over $1,100,000 in credits and refunds back to the Bloomington community.
