Our software maintained all the student enrollment information, grades, attendance, health records, as well as discipline records. It interfaced and touched almost every other department in the district. I was responsible for leading a team to maintain and create over 40+ integrations with other systems inside the district. I restructured our team to not only quickly and efficiently maintain these systems, but also accurately track future and in progress requests from the entire district.I also orchestrated the technical effort behind the transition to a new SIS system - Edupoint Synergy. This transition was an 18 month effort. over the next year. I organized my team to not only architect and build out the 31 servers required for the new system, but also oversaw all of the data extractions and imports into the new system in a structured and phased-in process.

I started work at the USPCA where my initial job included general IT maintenance and planning, and maintaining three web sites for the trade organization: the public site, a member's only site, and a chef listing site.From an IT Manager standpoint, this is where I got to really learn a lot about hardware/infrastructure. I was responsible for the entire network, switches, cabling, servers - everything. We eventually transitioned from a Microsoft environment to a linux one (Except workstations) and heavily invested in virtualization (using Xen) This was a tremendous learning experience for me and I soaked all of it up.On the web site front there were some interesting challenges that led to a great journey that eventually opened up my world. When I started, the sites were a mess of small bought ASP application and perl/shell scripts that were cobbled together. The closest thing to a database on the back end was one excel spreadsheet. I quickly transitioned the sites to ColdFusion and MySQL/Access databases and set about improving the functionality for the sites.As ColdFusion started becoming increasingly more expensive and constricting, I saw it as an opportunity to pivot and taught myself PHP. I took to it like a duck to water and within 6 months the last of the ColdFusion was gone replaced with brand new web applications running on the traditional LAMP stack. My productivity exploded and we expanded to 6 web sites. A couple of them had heavy custom web applications driving them entirely.I was also tasked with developing a windows application that Chefs could use to maintain their recipe database, and help plan weekly menus for their client. The application had to additionally be able to calculate nutrition impact at the menu level and recipe development level. The initial application was done rapidly in Visual Basic using an access database back end. The results we an overwhelming success and MenuMagic software was launched!

Working at Foresight marked the beginning of what I have come to do quite frequently in my career - rapidly coming up to speed on a technology/subject and wearing multiple hats within the company.Foresight Solutions started out life as Softec LLC - a 5 person software company in a small ski town that delivered accounting software for the Macintosh. I was able to see the company grow, be acquired twice, two name changes, an increase of employees to as many as 60, and then fall like so many other firms of the dot com bubble bursting.With my database experience from my previous job I started as the only support technician at the company. I ramped up and learned so much about general accounting practices in a short amount of time. As the company grew my duties included on-site training and implementation, pre-sales sales engineering, and heading the entire support and training department as it grew to match the companies growth.Eventually, I transitioned away from support and into a role developing and maintaining all of our web sites and working along side other developers using Cold Fusion and Javascript to build e-commerce interfaces with our accounting software. The internet was still very young and just learning to walk and I was able to get in at the ground floor to do some pretty cool stuff.

This was my very first job straight out of high school the summer before starting college. It was amazing how much I learned in the years here. It really solidified my love of combining programming, databases, and graphics.I started in the publications department completing Mil-spec drafting, and creating infographics and PowerPoint presentations.I quickly transitioned to a developer role in a team working on a project that combined with one of the first SQL engines (Watcom) with AutoCad and a custom user interface to visually, and object oriented walk-through a complex 3D representation of EC-135 aircraft. This was an amazing experience for me as I worked with some brilliant developers. My primary manager exposed me to the concepts of object-oriented programming AND object oriented analysis which can be applied to ANY business process or problem.After this project, I got to work on a series of challenging projects involving databases (more Watcom SQL, 4th Dimension, and Microsoft Access) including a large simulation project and working closely with engineers at skunks works project.I then transitioned to creating interactive multimedia training CD's and "web" sites (the world wide web was still in it's infancy) for the JTMD and JTAMS air force training program. I maintained a secret clearance while employed at TRW.
