Brian Roberts is a founder and leader of several sustainable, clean tech initiatives: Ergo Eco Solutions is a social enterprise focused on the research and development of oil-ternative(TM) eco products upcycled from our Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) recycling operations on Vancouver Island, Canada. Ergo produces biodiesel, agricultural and other bio-based products as a sustainable alternative to harmful petro-chemicals with a goal of “making every drop matter for people & planet.; Cowichan Bio-Diesel Co-op, making sustainable biodiesel locally available as a low carbon alternative for use in any diesel vehicle; Cowichan Energy Alternatives, a non-profit leader in building resilient, sustainable communities through programs such as the Community Carbon Marketplace, a local economic development initiative that pays organizations and SMEs for each tonne of carbon they reduce through its innovative online carbon credit exchange. My passion for renewable, community-based solutions and to "advocate by doing" led to the creation of the Cowichan Bio-Diesel Co-op and Cowichan Energy Alternatives. My role in the latter involves renewable energy feasibility and project work, energy and GHG emissions inventories (carbon footprint assessments) and planning, proposal/grant-writing and public outreach/education, assisting businesses to create and realize value for reducing their GHG emissions through the growing Community Carbon Marketplace program. I have also played a leading role in the development of the Cowichan BioFuel Facility, a partnership with the Cowichan Valley Regional District, located at the Bings Creek Recycling Centre at 3900 Drinkwater Road in North Cowichan, BC. My professional background includes experience in numerous projects including large and small environmental impact assessments, mitigation of environmental impacts, agricultural assessments, land capabilities studies, prediction and assessment of climate change impacts, alternative energy studies, soils, terrain and bioterrain mapping, landslide hazard and risk assessments, hydrology/groundwater studies, and contaminated site studies. My academic studies were in earth and environmental sciences, geomorphology, soil science, hydrology and ecology. In my professional career I have worked for the Provincial Government, as an Environmental Consultant, as an instructor at VIU, and most recently as the founder and leader of non-profit and social enterprise initiatives.
